Is the provolov rumour just made up here? Anything to get away from JTM.

Imagine Provolov + Myers + OEL lol only 20M+

Least effective pairing in the NHL.

Using @TheAthleticNHL’s player cards I went about ranking 77 NHL defense pairs (minimum 245 5-on-5 minutes) based on surplus value provided this season.

The OEL-Myers pair ranked 77th out of 77.

On Vancouver’s over-priced, underperforming blue line: theathletic.com/4075669/2023/0…

This is the way I see it:

They were bad under Baum, who is/was a terrible D coach.
They were good - great under Shaw, who is an amazing D coach.
They suck under Yeo, who is a terrible D coach.

Coaching is the issue and BB made a mistake by saddling himself with Yeo.

He said surplus value-based ranking so he's ranking defensive pairings' impact relative to their cap hits.

I think doing something like JTM for Prov and Bo for Fabbro + 2023 1st and a 2nd is the only way we get picks. FA refuses to rebuild, but these two trades help fix our top 4 D. Creates a log jam so Schenn needs to go. then you decide to keep Bear and trade Myers or keep Myers and trade Bear.

Prov - Hughes
OEL - Fabbro
Dermott - Myers/Bear

- Retinalz

It’s a good change. So how long does that D fix last? Long enough to fill in the gaping top 6 forward/C holes? Those 23-24 draft picks better develop quick and not be busts.

I can see Philly shopping him, but the made up part is Canuck homers thinking they'll trade him for Miller or Boeser.

The Canucks would probably want a good prospect coming back as well.
- VanHockeyGuy

Flyers fans, like Canucks fans are delusional. They want multiple 1st or equivalent back, same as what people expect for JTM. Think we all need to temper expectations on any trade returns. Just get a good piece back.

I think you over rate Shaw, and the pair was just lucky for a stretch. Watching them last year they never looked “good”, they just didn’t bleed goals.

Well there you go it’s a done deal Provorov is getting traded. Just not to Canucks cause Horvat isn’t enough. It’s all downhill as Canuck trades lead to zero sum returns and draft picks to busts.

Might as well accept Canuck fate. The club will not win a cup in our life time and rarely ever see playoffs. No need to cry just laugh at it.

Can we get the sedins back? We were spoiled with them and they took a lot of hate but we had some great teams built around them.

Flyers fans say Chuck Fletcher is a hall of fame GM because of how great he makes other GM’s around him

I doubt Miller gets traded, but one can dream…

It’s funny, for years, they were thought as busts. Then a circus show that wouldn’t translate to playoff success.

But I have to say that watching Game 7 in 2011 slip away I had a bad feeling. Like it would be decades more to get that close again to the Cup. Now we are into the second decade and it seems even further away.

Canucks need to win some trades and better draft luck. Ten teams have uneven odds of a chance at Bedard. The Canucks lucking into that one would be a good start.

Miller is worth nothing on his own, I'm not delusional about that. The odds of someone taking that contract are equivalent to Jim Benning getting hired as GM of another team. Because that is what it would take ... Benning to take him OEL style.

That really was the most amazing backing out the door middle finger trade. The nucks would have still sucked short term, but would have been in such a better place with all those guys off the books and no OEL, no Garland (although I still don't mind him but not at the cost of taking OEL) ... any maybe having Guenther. Who knows the dominos then. Maybe better draft pick last year, Horvat signed ... Miller trade. Sigh.

You're delusional if you think someone who produces at or near a PPG has no value. Miller may no longer have he value he had at last years TDL, but he still has value and could net a 1st + in a trade.

The what if scenario aside, which can’t be undone, why does JTM have no value?

You do realize he’s got the same contract as last season when there were teams after him. As for the extension teams have the off season to figure out the cap fit.

Miller is trade-able to be sure just that his value was higher last year. Even if he was moved this season I would not be shocked if the return is mediocre just to move the contract out. Now, the return for Bo would be quite high but it would be a shame to move on from Bo. There has to be a deal out there for Miller-Garland-Pearson somewhere lol

Being after someone for a 1-2 year commitment is completely different than being on the hook for 7 more years for a guy turning 30 in a league that is getting younger every year ... 7 years at 8 million nonetheless.

If Flyers send their 1st for JTM that would be amazing.

Better than $21.81m in LHD with the D still sucking. Dumbest idea yet.

You're asking someone to pay a 1st for a mistake you made. The mere fact he's on the trade block before his new contract starts confirms the whoopsie.

Add to that, your 8 million dollar man is your worst plus/minus player, has hissy fits and has shown an inability to grow or accept responsibility. He's not a leader. He may have been a nice complimentary piece to a team before this year, but he's now done his best to prove he's at least a crumby teammate, if not a cancer in the room. Even if it's just optics, a competing GM isn't going to have access to your room to confirm or deny. That's a whole lot of risk to accept. I live in risk/reward analysis. My opinion is you would have to take another problem on at minimum in a trade, and then maybe maybe get your pick ... but I still don't see it. There aren't a lot of 7 year problems out there. GMs only have to look as far as the very team they're negotiating with to see what a declining 30+ player with many years left at a high cap hit can do to handicap your team.
