I think it depends on who’s drafting, some teams find gems in the later rounds, Jamie Benn 5th round pick etc…
- K-man25

Mark Stone was a 6th round pick, Sebastian Aho a 2nd Bergeron a 2nd, Marchand a 3rd, Jake Guentzel a 3rd.
The list goes on and on and that is only forwards, defensemen like Parayko and Slavin were mid round picks.

According to these guys, yes.

Canuck fans:
"The odds of hitting on picks outside of the top 10 are so low so I'm okay with trading picks."

Also Canucks fans:
"We can't blow it up and lose and develop a losing culture, I'd rather be competitive and draft in the teens"
"Why does our prospect pool suck?"

I don't give a poop because it's better than the 80-90% odds of more Granlunds

Just making up numbers to please yourself eh.

The only way you are getting higher picks now a days is if you are giving up real good NHL talent for a good question mark. That's why someone like Miller is offered a 1st, and two other players that were taken in the first round.

3 - 1st round picks for 1 player.

That's why Canucks are asking for NHL players because if the picks don't work out, at least you got something in the way of NHL players for a player of much higher calibre.

They should be interested in high ceiling assets, even if the bust potential is more high. They need high variance/volatile assets, not safe/low ceiling assets. Everyone agrees that this team needs impact players, not more Bears and 3rd liners.

Jim! Is that you Jim? So getting NHL players that are mediocre is still better than missing out on drafting? What about the created cap space?

It's crazy how the Canucks haven't been able to land all the superstars in later rounds like everyone else does every year.

The main argument I'm seeing is. Role players > mystery boxes which I get to a certain extent, but by that logic, every trade where you land a NHL player for a pick/prospect is the right move.

Now lets throw some hyperbole your way

Canucks trade unprotected 2023 1st for Alex Newhook

Newhook's odds of NHL > nhl odds of whatever pick Canucks end up with

Joe Sakic: Where do I sign?

Kirby Dach drafted 3oa has not broken 30 points after 3 seasons. Was traded for 13oa and a 3rd by an NHL executive.

I’m arguing the value of picks vs age gap players that get traded

How many mystery boxes do you need to open to find one role player?

Say rounds 3-7 are your mystery boxes. Reclamation projects usually don't go for Benning's 2nds anymore.

Canucks have made 46 selections between 2014 and now. Forsling and Gaudette have played more than 1 NHL season.

And I’d take any single 1 of Forsling + McCann + Demko over the combined pile of trash that this team has traded picks/prospects for

So 1 draft hit in 8 years is more valuable than the sea of Granlunds

You’re not getting a Lundell or Byram for Horvat and Canucks want age gap players so the next best thing in my opinion is 1st round picks or recently drafted prospects who are tracking well, not guys on nhl teams that haven’t lived up to their hype and are tracking as dime a dozen role players.

Agree or disagree?

Agree. You don’t draft 9oa & develop a top 6C to start all over again & hope. Lucky to break even so there is no logic to even try.
