In the past, I have said it would take about 5 years to clear up this mess, I believe if they could do something like what I was sarcastically saying, it would be about 5 years. IMO.

I doubt very much that any team would be able to tear it down like that, but if they could, I would be the 1st to compliment this management group.

Ah, but I’m not asking how long until the rebuild is complete, only how long until they are a .500 team again… look at the Coyotes, early stages of a rebuild and currently at .443

That one hurt but Flames have gone nowhere & still won’t.

Not sure I'd pin that on Andersson, they'd be worse without him.

I'll take my 5-10% odds of landing a core player over my 90% odds of a 3rd liner or #5 dman that you can find in free agency or trades every year

Coyotes have more non-shootout wins than the Canucks this year

Given the right situation as in trades & cap space I’m liking RHD Gudas & LHD Gavrikov & Soucy as D targets as UFA’s.

Canucks need more 3rd pairing defenders???

Even more sad for the Canucks then, a team with Stecher has more wins in regulation/OT than the Nucks

Tanking so hard they lent Guenther to Canada, once they win the Bedard lottery, they’ll be a good team, Logan Cooley coming, they’ve done well at acquiring picks.

They just need to trade some of those picks for some scraps now and they'll be set according to Canucks media/fans logic

Benning isn’t here anymore. He can’t hurt you. There was nothing wrong with his strategy (other than Franky should have allowed a tear down) it’s just our pro scouting was horrific and Benning seemingly placed no value on draft picks. Clancy and Allvin are clearly more capable. All of their moves have been decent to good other than Miller. I hated signing Brock more than anybody but they clearly thought they could rebuild some value. Nobody knew he was no longer an NHL calibre player

Back in 2011 the cupboards were very empty, and your three biggest trading chips had full NMCs.

There were many many debates on here about trying to move the Sedins and the fans here were fully against it so I am not buying the fans would have accepted a full rebuild.

Luongo was supposed to have a deal in place for Kadri two firsts and Bozak but nixed the deal. That full NMC was given to LU by GMMG.

Benning did come in and make a lot of bad choices with the new president and new coach, but ownership was never going to let any of this happen. The team was aging but still selling out game after game.

This organization has been one of the worst ran franchises for over a decade now and no one at all fans included knows how to fix it, but even if they did it would not be approved by this idiot ownership.

Yes.

I know you've mentioned it before but every regime inheriting the mess from the last guy is just trying to take shortcuts just to hopefully try to squeeze into the playoffs with some luck and pass on the future mess to the next guy and the idiot owner is cool with it

Not sure why some are so concerned about only getting a late 1st etc. All the good teams have several players in their lineups that are late 1st, 2nd 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks.
It is all about how you draft, which the Canucks are terrible at.

The more picks you have, the higher odds you have of hitting a homerun and finding a difference maker. But yes, ideally you have good drafting/development to increase your odds.

I'd rather fail trying that way instead of getting stuck with castoff age gap garbage

I think you could say that about a lot of organizations. Most GM’s want a quick fix to make them look good, they’re not worried about long term success. They know they’ll be gone after 5-7 years.
Agree though if an owner stands up and says we want to do this properly and go through a full rebuild, then you’ll see eventual success. FA ain’t that guy, but he’s not alone.

Are they trying to take shortcuts or are they told by their boss they can't do a rebuild.

JR was pretty strong with his words this year about a rebuild and then they sign JTM Boeser and get Mikheyev. That does not sound like a rebuild.

I don't know what is being said behind closed doors with FA and JR but none of it is consistent with what JR tells the media .

Ah yes, I see.
It depends a lot on the type of players you bring in to complement what you have already. If you bring in a crew of hard working players, you should be able to reach .500 within 2-3 years, as long as they aren't floater types, sprinkled in to your group.
It sets a pretty poor example, to the young players coming in.

I'm not sure how much I trust what JR says in general, I think he himself is a bullpoop master who just tries to say what he thinks the media/fans want to hear. He's like a mix of Gillis/Benning, he lies and tries to play the media/fans but then also says dumb poop too

Playoffs! There’s a concept, funny Canucks haven’t sniffed them since Marky and Tanev bolted for the mighty Flames. Good for you though correcting my math.

- K-man25

Yeah, Marky and Tanev really put the Flames over the hump. Getting embarrassed like that against the Oilers is worse than not making the playoffs for Flames fans.
