Sure but did you look at his buyout numbers for 8yrs?

https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator

Gotta have a lot more in mind than just buying him out. It would be a rebuild for sure. Eff FA if that’s the plan.

8 yrs is 3 re-tools from now.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care if they trade top players but be consistent of what direction you are going. Don't trade top players (rebuild) and go for a playoff push.

Pick a direction. One direction only.

Why not retain on OEL in a trade & save 4yrs of the buyout?
- Nighthawk

It would cost a 1st and retention to trade OEL.

America laid a beating on Germany. I thought Germany had played pretty well in the tournament until this game.

Nah. Take on a 1-2yr bad contract instead.

Not many GMs are willing to take a five-year bad contract for a two-year bad contract without some kind of incentive.

Benning is gone. I knew he was going to do that trade. Seen it coming all year.

Sadly this time is trying to do multiple things at once, I'm honestly not sure if they themselves know what the direction is.

How do you do from shopping Miller last TDL and the draft to signing him for 7 years? And now trying to sign Bo for 7-8 years but also listening to offers for him?

JR goes on TV last year and says the team wasn't as good under their record says because Demko carried them, he then brings back the coach, Boeser and Miller and the same defense.

I think it was Dreger or Serevalli who said this past summer after the Miller deal that even other teams have no idea what the Canucks are doing

It seems like this team just operates day by day and takes "we'll see what happens" approach, like running a yahoo league team

Said retention already not add a 1st. 4yrs after this season.

Example: OEL retain 3m for Zaitsev
Lose on talent
Saw off on cap
Zaitsev gone in 2yrs

Yeah, unfortunately there does not seem to be a lot of long-term goals, but instead a lot of knee jerking. Always a day late and a dollar short.

The Canucks are trying not to act desperate. That's about it.

The goal is no different than Benning's "draft and develop" approach. Sorry, add and attempt to make the playoffs.

The better option is to find a capable right side D to get the best out of OEL for the time being, much like QH, without the safety net, they are vulnerable

An extremely risky play would be, if management believe that a player like Sneider off the Rangers would bring out OELs best, then BoHo straight up might be the best short term and longterm play

Why would Ott or Van do this or OEL say yes?

Van would lose 3 mil in dead cap next year and take on 4.5 mil of a bad contract totaling 7.5 mil instead of a buyout and getting over seven mil in cap.

Year two three Canucks gain 1 mil and a bit.

Year four Canucks lose 1 mil.

No one should care about the final four years of the two-mil cap hit.
