It’s been talked about here and in media. At this point any sell moves are welcome. Sad if it’s just a straight up trade with retention. Especially since Rangers are getting more than a rental. They were prepared to give more for JTM. He’s an established point producer. Canucks getting broken potential. Seems lopsided.

From Duhatscheck at the Athletic (so no sources, just a wish list trade idea), but I would love it:
- NewYorkNuck

From a cap point of view Miller for Laf is a huge change the Rags cannot justify. Age wise the same. Talent wise it begins the debate.

A 1oa has optics value in this case. Only the ELC control & the maybe potential are arguing points. Nothing else imo is.

The Rags won’t make a Miller for Laf straight up deal. They cannot admit &/or give up on Laf. If they are pushing for a cup run they need a 2C & shutdown top 4 LHD. Laf gets neither of those.

Better to have him tell it like it is rather than a sugar-coated snowflake media version.

A true A$$hole

Taking on a project for an established player is a tough go right now in the WC hunt. Seems like NYR is still sniffing around Miller however but dumping LAF this early tells us he may be a bust on his way out. If you are actually going to move Miller to NYR demand a solid RHD or don't make the deal at this point.
- LordHumungous

Laf has 1oa bust written all over him. He still is & will be good but not in NYR imo. Any chance of reaching expected potential lies in somehow a major break out year but nearly impossible when he’s behind Kreider & Panarin on LW. Forcing him onto RW hasn’t worked.

That solid RHD might be Schneider but he hasn’t proven to be top 4.

8m Miller cap hit is real but his talent is tarnished for the same reason.

So if you’re not a snowflake going through the motions, you’re an a-h0le for wanting to win?

I rather JTM apologize for not playing better; then, for being rude to a teammate in the heat of the moment.

Don’t think the Rangers will give up Schneider. He also playing behind Trouba and Fox so hard to get into the top 4.

Could it have anything to do with who plays above him? Just like the Laf situation, the quality of players above you makes a difference where you slot into the lineup.
On the Canucks, he would instantly be the teams best defenseman.

Pretty good game between Slovakia and Switzerland, more physicality in this game, than the Canucks during a season.

Rags need a top 4 LHD 2C or lastly a top 6 RW.

Trouba at 8m isn’t worth it.
Fox is a stud.
He’s 3rd pairing for those reasons.

Trouba highly overrated but has to be played top 4. Fox is a stud. Nothing to show Schneider would be a top 4 til proven. That said he’s only a part in a package.

Laf was mismanaged & forced into a role. Just another prospect the Rags don’t develop properly. Other than Kreider their core was never drafted nor developed by them.

I don't think it's as stark as you think.

Cap is clearly the biggest hurdle, but some retention on Miller would have to happen. I don't see much on the Rangers roster that would be a cap dump, though.

If the Rangers are soured on Laf, and want to push for a cup in the next couple seasons, Miller becomes their 2C who pushes their offense forward a ton.

Retain from NYR’s point of view yes but no for the Canucks on that term.

Bo therefore makes more sense to NY. Still a nice package from NYR needed to make it happen. Simpler option is take one of our RW to fill need. Their prospect pool has none.
