I think it's changed to 5 years away from being 5 years away.

It's been about a month to hit 200 pages here... so after the next decade of futility we'll have roughly 24,000 pages of hate

When you draft a lot of players from overseas, or heading to NCAA, the internal competition will continue to be a concern

Nice to see the team enjoying the festivities, it should also be noted 2 of the players here probably won't be with the team next Christmas.

In the short term maybe, but those players, if they’re good enough, graduate to take jobs. I think it’s more about the quality and volume of picks - or lack of both that’s the main issue for the Canucks - not which league they were drafted from.

Ya, I went to check standings, after I posted that. Those teams below them have started heating up as well, so it might be tough for Devils to even make the playoffs.

I was responding more specifically to Jannik commenting about no internal competition from the AHL. Hard to have internal competition when players are developing elsewhere and not yet/unable to sign contracts.

Have a look at the entire WC, it’s dreadful. Winnipeg and Minnesota and that’s it. After that Calgary is the hottest team at 5-3-2 or some poop.

How did the league get so mediocre?

Makes for some high scoring, “entertaining” games I guess.

Ah, I guess. But don’t College and European players still see time in the AHL for other more competent teams? ELCs are shorter because of age, but most still need to sign them.

Or straight up just don’t draft enough, especially at key positions.

There’s plenty of internal competition for middle 6 winger spots on this team but that’s about it

The internal Center depth is Dries/Pedersen/Karlsson

The internal dman depth is Stillman/Burroughs/Wolanin/Rathbone/Dermott

All fringe talents

The AHL guys most likely to play in the NHL full time in the future are both wingers, Pod and Hog

Expansion has something to do with the mediocrity, as does the lack of talent worldwide.

Most teams have to fill out their rosters with players who should be in the minors, SHL, Liiga etc.

So basically this bunch of pussies is motivated by money. Not fear of losing, or the desire to get your name on the Cup. Sounds about right.

For sure that is a problem, which leads into another issue I brought up here a few months ago. Back in 2004, there were 9 rounds of drafting, with 291 player chosen, nowadays, there are 7 rounds, with 224 players chosen.
Reinstalling the draft to 9 rounds would bring the amount of players selected , to 288, which would allow for a few late round picks to be added to each teams depth /prospect pool.
I realize that idea goes against my thoughts from my previous comment, in regards to worldwide talent, but it does allow for some late bloomers, like Jannik, to end up with a better chance of making it.

Fine, however you need to have draft picks to start off with. The Canucks are not interested in futures, their time is now.

Out. Not paying SHAW Cable's inflated prices of $230 for the Centre Ice season they can go fuck themselves.

I know most of us are extremely frustrated with this team, from top to bottom, but let's see if they take advantage of the opportunity to do the right thing.
Assessing what you have, can no longer Bea thing, need to start moving players out, before the market heats up and opportunities are missed.
I know, preaching to the choir.
