no need to be stealthy about it

In a league where teams are afraid to trade for guys signed for more than 2-3 year deals, I wonder how many would line up to trade for a 30 year old signed for 7 more years and how many owners would sign off on acquiring that contract?
- Nucker101

I mean, if JTM hit free agency this year, what kind of contract do you think he would get? Basically the same thing (aside from giving up assets..)

However, if a team who wanted to "accelerate" their rebuild, but couldn't normally sign a JTM kind of player at this point... they might be interested in acquiring him, no? Not saying it's likely, just a possibility.

I’m still of the opinion that not enough time has passed to truly understand what their long term plans are. Clearly in the short term they are giving the current coach and roster enough rope to see if they can replicate the second half of last season. Which obviously they cannot.

I would be astonished if they haven’t made significant roster changes by the end of the season. If they haven’t, the hate will get significantly elevated by me.

I still stand by my guns that this problem goes back before Benning. I still think dating back to 2008 or earlier there were signs of trouble and when Gillis walked in announcing things were going to be done differently and he would have a new and different team.

When no one was available, he had his hands tied to sign the same old players and went through draft picks trying to win now by adding. He cleaned the cupboards of draft picks and prospects. Last minute signings of the Twins in Sweden again handcuffing the cap and locking players in with NMC and full NTCs.

Time heals lots of things, but the last few games fans were chanting Fire Gillis.

Then FA brings in a totally first-time crew of Benning Linden and Willy who were inexperienced and dumb. Trying to fill the holes left by the last guys, moves of desperation one after the other. Thus, the airplane, Fire Benning.

What does FA do? Hires another inexperienced group with no experience other than old man Rutherford who basically got fired (quit) by his last team for being outdated and no longer on top of his game.

Each group they hire the hole gets deeper and deeper. Nothing will change until they blow this fu cker up. It is just crazy to think one person other than the owner is responsible for this mess.

Fair point, but again if this team just signed Miller, signed Mikheyev, traded a 2nd to clear up cap space for the current season and next season, and now offered Horvat a big contract just recently then I'm not sure they're interested in blowing it up.

NHL salary cap going up, question is how far are they apart? Why does Horvat have to take less than JTM? I don't blame his camp from digging in. Rutherford has to have an internal pressure point deadline for an agreement. The trade deadline is March 3rd, I'll guess JR's deadline is a month before that.

’s report, told that the Canucks made Horvat’s camp the new contract offer a couple of weeks ago. With the offer rejected, Canucks focused on the trade market between now and March 3

Team had no plan B but Horvat sure had a plan B to get out of this poop show.

On potential Bo Horvat suitors:

“The Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Dallas Stars are among the teams believed to have interest.” #Canucks

Maybe they can get Lundkvist after all

In seriousness Dallas is the only team there that could give Van what they need except for the 1st this year.

All that shows is it's okay to be a defensive liability, and get paid well for it.

Yup, players like Jarvis won't be traded. Cheap players who play decent minutes are valued by every type of team, rebuilding or contender, and the ones who are available should probably raise an eyebrow for the team acquiring them.

Canucks need to accept that and target prospects/picks but we all know it's going to end up being Newhook + Girard for Horvat

Luckily the Pacific is trash so all teams still in it, just got to finish top 3.

Canucks don’t need to wait, they got one of the best top 9’s in the league. They basically score at will, even without Virtanen.

Piss poor asset management if that’s all they get. Maybe Looch, Kylington, Mighty Mouse (Phillips) gets it done > Newhook and Girard.

Oh I agree, unfortunately. Don't see them blowing it up, as much as it's needed. Would be happy if they admitted their (FA's) error and changed course, though.

How far back do you want to go? I remember getting a program at the game as a kid and on the cover it had a picture of Jake Milford and Harry Neale with the quote “We don’t know what we’re doing, but we think it’s starting to work. So I guess there’s nothing new under the sun.
