Talks of Miller getting into the 9's on the open market. Miller's contract in Van isn't 8 something. It's just 8.

Yeah I could see weaker teams offering 9... and better teams close to what he got maybe less years.

You get that guy going and he's still a positive trade asset.

Look at Kadri as well. A lot of high numbers thrown around for him. His 1 season of over a PPG landed him 7m and he's actually good defensively and not a (frank)en wussy

Somebody will always over pay. Doesn't mean Van has too.

5 Canucks Thoughts

Do other teams even watch the #Canucks play? Saying Horvat is like Ryan o rielly is like saying hoglander is Gaudreau. Both are similar sizes sure. That’s about it.

One is a selke winner, one is horrible defensively

I bet it's the Flyers, they always overpay.

I had thought about that

Horvat's agent is using Hertl as his comparable for 8M plus. Looking at the rest of the contracts that the Sharks have given out though.

Burns, traded for pennies and retained.

Karlsson no one wants to touch with a 10 foot pole.

Vlasic one of the worst contracts in the league.

Couture probably hasn't been an 8M player since he signed that contract. Probably wasn't an 8m player before either though.

5.75 to Martin Jones bought out 2 years in.

Simek contract might be worse than Poolman's.

At least Lebanc is playing a little bit better in year 3 of his 4.75M 4 year deal.

That's all that needs to be said about copying a shark's players deal.

I’ve always liked Couture, really solid two-way player who plays well in big games but yeah he’s pretty much untradeable lol

Karlsson also looks as healthy as he’s been in years. Even at the end of that 2:30 shift in OT he still had enough energy to force Horvat to rush on his breakaway

Karlsson is also proving his worth this season. Although I doubt that it's going to be sustainable over the next 4 seasons. 1 out of 8 seasons makes it all worth it right?

That would be absolute worst case scenario but I don't see management eating that much crow after just signing him. I cringe at the thought of that.
- SMP8719

Puck Soup guys were musing, Buffalo Sabres, have three second round picks in 2023 and cap space to make the deal without a contract going back. The offer was two 2nds! I laughed out loud but hell yea.

Its incredible that the contract Miller signed makes him hard to trade. The entire NHL is telling JR (who is Alvin again?) that they immediately overpaid.

I bet Lou Lam in New York set them up - he told them to sign Miller for cost certainty for a trade. Then they did it, and now NJ only is offering half the assets and will make the Canucks retain 2m of salary....

Better to focus on what Schenn would fetch. Can bet on a bidding war for sure. Inter division teams would make it fun. Boston Leafs TB etc.

What will he fetch if traded? Discuss

Horvats a center. Miller is a winger. This is an argument that management can't win. They won't get it cheaper... Horvat left money on the table last time and now he has to put up with being low balled and not being shown he's worth a lot more than Boeser. They made this mess when they signed miller and Boeser in the summer.

Horvat is career -67 in 9 Seasons including current
JTM is +33 in 12 Seasons

Horvat 144
JTM 217 points last 3 seasons

Not close. Horvat takes the tough assignments but he doesn't thrive at it. Good on FO for sure but he isn't close to a Selke. He also isn't close to the offensive force... he won't score at 23% for the rest of the year

- SMP8719

Great post. Fanboys always overrate Bo. He is on a heater but which ever team signs him is going to be ducked for years

I figure that’s the min let us hope more if he does get moved. I’d still like to resign him say 2/1m. After all he’s been awesome value & earned it.

Offer him 3 years - $1 mill. Type of guy you need for a rebuild and who gives a (frank) about mid round picks. They need to be moving Bo, Boeser, Garland and Hughes. This team needs a new culture and a fresh start. If Pouty won’t sign then ship him out as well. Schenn is the last player they should move

Edit. Demko 💯 has to go
