Media when Leafs are losing- Why aren't the big boys producing? Team quit on coach. Rebuild now.
Media when Leafs are winning- Matthews is gone once he's deal is up. No chance he wants to be here.
My reaction to morons saying the media loves the Leafs-
- GreatGigInTheSky
That one has always been amusing. Is the media obsessed with the Leafs? Absolutely. Are they in love with them? Maybe 1 or 2 of the 60 people covering them. |

I get that there is a chance that Matthews could leave as a UFA, it's his choice. If he does, he does.
What bothers me, is that the media in Toronto has to look for a negative narrative even when the Leafs are playing well - PatC80
Again, its not the "media" its one person. I heard him talking about this a month ago and the two other guys on his show were saying the opposite of him.
Also saying he will sign doesn't illicit much of a convo or reaction. Saying he wont does, as youve proved.

Exactly. They undeniably love talking about the Leafs, for obvious reasons. But no team is more hated by the ones covering them than the Leafs are.
Other fans complain about too much Leafs coverage, and that's fine, but you'd think with how much the media actively poops on the team, they wouldn't mind most of it. Since they're of equal thoughts. |

Who actually makes sense to sign him (Don't say the Coyotes ffs) other than LA or maybe Chicago?
Toews/Kane gone, insert Matthews...though why he joins a rebuild that is a true rebuild?
Kopitar's 10mil leaves and he waltzes in at the mid point of the rebuild turnaround to take his place? Maybe. - AdamFrench
Rangers could. Simply clear cap space post signature |

LA makes some sense in that it's close to home - if he even wants to be there all year round - the Rangers would always have appeal due to the Market size, but I can't see how they'd fit him in with all the RFAs they have coming. I suspect they'll already be looking to move out Trouba and/or Trocheck to try and fit some of the emergent deals that could be coming - granted neither of Lafreniere or Kakko are doing their part to really elevate their cost.
Outside of proximity to home, Toronto really does make the most sense for him. I get Gaudreau's reasoning of wanting to be closer to home after his father's health scare during the pandemic - I really do. Until something like that happens, you probably don't think about it too much. |

People have to understand that alot of the Toronto media that cover the leafs are also national talking heads, so they try not to get lumped into leafs lover.
The smaller more local talking heads do not critic the leafs as much. |

If the leafs dont get past the 1st round and also do not go deep in the playoffs, ya i could see him maybe wanting a change of scenery.
Which is fine, clears up space for Mcd |

O'Dog is the biggest Leafs fan in the media and he also might be the guy that calls the team out the most. |

(frank) just gaining cap space, trade his ass before July 1st.
If this franchise lets him walk and gets nothing, people will burn the place down.

Happen again?
When have we lost a star in their prime?
Edit: maybe Sundin, but he played only a half season more. |
