For the life of me, I can't figure out why The Sens didn't like Murray? If they'd have kept him, maybe they'd be in a playoff spot? 😜 - Leaffrog
Because they'd already allocated his salary to 35 year old Claude Giroux for three years.
. . . although if you told me that Cam Talbot would be their best goalie, I'd have thought the other two were in comas or they all GAAs of 4.50 and above.

I can't temember the last time I felt this confident in a goalie in high danger areas or at critical times in the game. Cujo? Maybe Belfour at times. It's just nice to not always be nervous that a softie was going in at any moment.

I hope the success is enough to sell them on the idea that it is actually better than trying to outscore their mistakes all the time. - Aetherial
I think they’ve learned that the success is coming exactly because of the good defensive play and despite the fact they’re not scoring a lot. The nice thing is they’re not making a lot of mistakes.

. . . so Andrew Brunette coaches the Florida Panthers to a .720 winning percentage last year (50-18-6) and the President's Trophy. Then they decide to go to Paul Maurice, inexplicably - and are 10-8-3 so far this year.
Brunette was hired in Jersey as an Associate coach - and they are 18-4 (.818) after having been .384 last year.

Are you referring to Professor Paul with his postgame quotes?

Not exactly - I always found his dry humour pretty awesome. There's nothing wrong with Paul Maurice on a personal level, but . . .
Last year the Florida Panthers, under Andrew Brunette, had the 17th best season in NHL history (by points percentage). They just suddenly and surprisingly chose to replace him with Paul Maurice, which I find insane. Maurice has been coaching since 1995, and has never won a cup, having made the finals once in his 25 years of playoff appearances. What is it about him that supercedes Brunette - who has coached one season in his life and one of the best in history?
I don't know how much input Brunette has into the Devils system, but after adding Brunette to the mix, they have gone from among the worst in the league (.348) to 2nd in the league with an .826 mark.
Could be coincidence. Could be that someone in need of a coach, should be knocking on his door first.
