Fortunately our coach doesn't think like you guys. - niteislander
Yea that 4 minutes a game ross plays when he's in the lineup really makes an impact |

You can't have the smallest guy on your team in the middle of 5 flyers mixing it up while Holmstrom looked like he was scared to death. 3rd NHL game or not.. you have to at the very least engage and pull some people off him and help Parise get out of the net he was just cross checked into numerous times.
Holmstrom looks like a wuss to me. - niteislander
He likely was. Dude is 21 and has only played three NHL games, and has almost certainly never had to mix it up on a professional level before.
Give the kid some time. |

No, You're right they should break up the 4th line that plays 12 minutes a game often against the top lines ... b/c Ross is the same player as Martin.

He has been a pro in AHL for 3 years. At this point I think you guys argue with me just to argue... I had 20 Isles fans texting me what a pssy he was.. but on here he is a young rising star.

That’s an exaggeration. All anyone has said is he hasn’t looked out of place pssy or not. |

I said they should waive ross for cap space to add a player that actually has an impact. If they are keeping him as a replacement for Martin in the future thats one thing but he's pretty useless anywhere but as a sub for matt |

A bigger p*ssy then Nelson? It took Nelson getting punched in the face twice last year in a fight to finally drop the gloves and respond
Holmstrom doesn't look like the physical type and that's fine. It's not in everybody's blood. I mean Wahlstrom just stood there when Deslauriers jumped Ramanov and didn't get involved until DeAngelo grabbed him from behind. Is Wahlstrom a p*ssy? No but I think you're being a bit harsh with Holmstrom but you're definitely not wrong about him either. |

I am suggesting adding Ross to beat the fck out of Deslaurier .. for this game. Not their careeer... I am also suggesting that Simon is a Pssy. - niteislander
Never thought Sweden was really known for fighting. I get your hatred for Deslaurier, but again with Martin in the lineup theres no need for another Martin.....not when they keep winning. Martin, Cizikas, Clutterbuck, Mayfield, Lee, and now Wahlstrom have all shown they can handle that style of play. Not sure what your hatred is of 10, but this kid is absolutely legit. He's got my vote to cover Palmieri's injury |

They actually did a piece about him during one of the games, and touched on his adaptation to the N American style, and the major improvements he's made to his game. The wide open rink in Sweden is more pond hockey, where in the NHL he has learned to use the boards and his body. His stride is tremendous and his hockey acumen was excellent. I dont think he's projected to be the next Elias Petterson, but he's literally made no mistakes since being called up. |

Nelson is definitely not one to drop the gloves, but he has developed into a valuable 2-way center. Holmstrom looks good so far, and I would keep playing him until Palms is healthy.
Nevertheless, I would dress Johnston for this game. I know Martin could in theory handle Deslauriers, but I think he's valuable on the Cizikas line, and I wouldn't want to take a chance that he gets hit with an unlucky punch. As others have said, if you don't play Ross in a game like this, what's the point of having him on the team? Bailey is a soft player, and was pretty invisible 5 on 5 in the last game. Let him watch from the presser. |

I would rather him be a wuss and play as well as he has as a fill in then be a brute and be directly responsible for goals against. Sure, you want to see players stick up for each other out there. I get it. But he just needs to keep doing what he has been doing to A. Stay in the lineup and B. Eventually challenge for a spot. I would assume the kid knows that. I can say with complete confidence that Lambert isn’t benching him for his wussiness. - Cptmjl
The rationale of expecting a young green sweedish kid to be tough, is like expecting Ross Johnston to score goals. Everyone has their role. I think this kid is the real deal. He's got the tools to be a mainstay in the league. |

He's literally on the roster to replace the tough guy if the tough guy gets hurt |

Against Ottawa Ross replaced Bailey, and somehow the Isles managed a W without Bailey's offensive output. |

Bailey was benched for whatever reason. Ross has 1 pt and is a -1. He's not winning games for the isles. He's got one job....to play a physical game. The isles have the best defense they've had in 20+ years, and the best goaltending tandem since the 80s. They roll four lines who ALL contribute. They didnt win cause Ross Johnston was in the lineup |

Seriously!?!
I’m not disagreeing that he lacks truculence. I’m only pointing out his youth and inexperience.
So far as the AHL goes, it’s a pro league, yeah. But he’s barely even played a full two seasons thanks to the pandemic.
Again, give him time. He might grow a backbone, or he may not. Personally, I’d rather see him pot a brace of goals on Tuesday, rather than attempt to dummy up some Flyer who should be in Lehigh. |

Nobody is saying Johnston over Holmstrom in the long run. A few of us are saying I wouldn't mind seeing Ross in the lineup tomorrow night because of what happened Saturday night. I would be fine with Bailey sitting instead of Holmstrom but I think Lambert is going with the same lineup from the other night. I'm from the school of I rather have a heavy on the bench and not have to use him then not have a heavy on the bench and need him. Martin is not in the same class as Deslauriers. He could hang with MacEwen but the Boss is needed for Deslauries. Either way like I said earlier it looks like the same lineup from the other night so this debate is probably moot
