Suddenly the rangers top players will be getting attacked now that Reaves is gone. Yeah ok.
- Cptmjl

I don't buy it mainly because Reaves only played in about half of the Rangers games anyway and only averaged about 8m of TOI in those 12 games.

And, in this particular case, Reaves had a 0% shot of touching the ice down a goal with two minutes left on the clock and there was also a 0% chance he beats up a superstar like Draisaitl.

In my opinion, the only thing heavyweights do is somewhat deter other goons from running around like poopheads.

Guys like Reaves/Deslauriers/MacDermid/Johnston/etc... are never, ever going to lay a finger on a superstar unless they do something unfathomably dirty

You can still get a slashing penalty for slashing someone's stick. But that was the equivalent of getting a speeding ticket for doing 56 in a 55, terrible application of the rule
- eichiefs9

True, good point....perhaps i phrased it incorrectly. If seen ex post facto, you'd see it was not a slash. I think the refs have a tough job (in most pro sports), but they're human and make mistakes. It just seems like theres too much technology to not make it better

Yeah agreed. Is it a deterrent? Maybe to an extent. I don’t think there’s some opposing goon thinking, “well Johnston isn’t in the lineup today so I can run Barzal.” I think it may help prevent some shenanigans but not to the level most people do. It’s not 1980 anymore.

This is where we disagree .. a lot.. if you don't have a guy like Martin or Johnston on your roster other teams will beat the heck out of your guys. The Rangers were not the better team in the playoffs last year against the pens or Canes. They were the tougher team. When Trouba took Crosby and Domi's head off they Canes didn't have any big guys to stop it... .you lose the room that way.

When you are getting fun over, cheap shotted and punched in the face every scrum it disheartens a group. Look at what the Canes did to address it...

Is Brent Burns at this stage of his career a better offensive D-man than Tony D? NO, but he much much bigger. Remember when Tony shot it into the empty net after whistle? got tossed around like a rag doll.

Is Max Paccioretti better than Trochek? no.. of course not but he is much bigger and tougher..

Every guy they added is over 6 feet and over 200 lbs.. that was 100% on purpose.

On a positive note...this still hasn't gotten old for me since Saturday:

I’d argue with you there. Pacioretty is an elite shot generator, and one hell of a player.

Meh Trochek plays a tougher game then Paccioretti. Not sure that’s the best analogy. I get what you’re saying and if it is not a net negative to have some troll playing four mins a game to make other players think twice have at it. I just don’t think it’s as much of a deterrent as you do. What exactly is Reaves going to do to exact revenge on an opposing player? What does an opposing goon really have to be worried about? The prospect of having a 10 second wrestling match and perhaps, maybe, fall to the ice and have some fans scream at them?

reaves played 12 games for the rangers. great for the room, but reaves is a garbage player. Rangers have way more issues than reaves. Their core is PP merchants, Laf/kakko produce like 3rd liners bc they were developed by stevie wonder, trouba is the worst defenseman on the team, and GG has no system. Should I go on?

Rangers got outplayed by the Pens. Canes only outplayed the rangers in 2 games. They were not great that series.

Patches is more talented than Tro. Trocheck plays a great all around game. Cannot complain about that signing.

A good signing, yes. Fits the Rangers needs perfectly.

But if I got to choose between the two all things being equal, I’d always pick Pacioretty.

If you're not going to dress Johnston for tomorrow nights game then you'll never need to dress him again and might as well waive him and bring somebody else up.

Has there been talk of not dressing Johnston? I guess he's literally the back-up to Matt Martin

100% agree.. at this point I would rather him on top line than Bailey. At least he would just camp out in front while Whally and Barzal buzz all over the place and shoot god Willing.

Interesting......i guess that lineup won the game so they stay with the same guys. The isles as a whole are a pretty physical team. Who knew Wahlstrom could take 5 to the dome before dropping his gloves and still manhandle DeAngelo. I certainly did not. Kids phuckin tough

You really can't have Martin in the lineup, and Johnston, unless it all on the 4th line. You'd have to remove a pt producer in order to dress Johnston, and I guess going for the dub comes first.

They have done it a few times this year. They don't break up that 4th line. They are playing a lot of minutes and are a solid unit that can go with anyone and do their thing... If Johnston plays it will be on 3rd line is my guess with JGP and Parise.

See I think Trocheck was a somewhat bad signing. Not because he's not a good player, but Strome took less money and term and has had about the same offensive production as Trocheck over the 3 seasons prior to this one, with both of them playing on good offensive teams.

There's more to it than just that obviously, but I don't think Trocheck is worth the extra $14.375M and a contract that is two years longer

I don't know if there's been "talk" of it, but these were the lines at practice today:

Andrew Gross @AGrossNewsday
2h
#Isles at practice

Bailey-Barzal-Wahlstrom
Lee-Nelson-Beauvillier
Parise-Pageau-Holmstrom
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
Aho-Dobson'
Pelech-Pulock
Romanov-Mayfield

Sorokin and Varlamov the goalies
Salo and Johnston the extras

For all we know it could be some gamesmanship on Lambert's part to see if Torts sits Deslauriers tomorrow now
