Right on. Deeper look 5v5 GF/GA...all on the goalies.

Power 27-19
Dahlin 22-13
Samuelsson 11-4
Jokiharju 10-8
Lybushkin 4-6
Clague 6-7
Pilut 6-8
Fitzgerald 6-11
Bryson 7-21

Power 27-19
Dahlin 22-13
Samuelsson 11-4
Jokiharju 10-8
Lybushkin 4-6
Clague 6-7
Pilut 6-8
Fitzgerald 6-11
Bryson 7-21

That's what happens when you have 26m of cap space, but just have to evaluate Bryson and Fitz for another year.

Amen... only 3 D-man are worth a poop.

Bryson I could get a little bit, but Fitz is a mystery. I bet the PK numbers are even worse because you're compounding the problem by having to play these guys more because 26 and 25 can't play every shift. Our weak links are killing us.

Joker would be fine as the 5th guy. Hes not a top 4D tho.

Find me someone for Power and get Casey and Casey off this team

I've defended Adams for passing on the scrubs that so many fall in love with, but I don't get that non-move. Seemed like a no-brainer.

why is everyone so surprised? Our goalies are bad and only 3 D-men are good on this team. Dahlin, power and Sam.

What is frustrating is we are like the 4th highest scoring team in the NHL and the 6th worst GA.

why not try to tighten up the Defense some?

- hehateme

The surprising part is that posters dont think the goaltending is bad.

Listed last in regards to the Sabres current issues, behind the 3rd line being a problem.

Or was his name Mike Reilly.... Either way that D from Boston would be our 5th best D right now and hes playing the AHL...

How big of a drop off between 4th and 5th defenseman in the nhl?

Must be tremendous....

The 3rd line is our biggest problem. On both F and D

No one said Goalie isn't a problem but it is not THE problem. Its a non-issue with the way our defense is played.

So when you look at the numbers that were just posted, you come away with the goalies are a problem? The good players all are comfortably better than average and the bad players are bad. Are the goalies playing good with the good players are on the ice? Is Bryson sleeping with Comrie's girlfriend so Comrie plays worse those shifts? Is it a coincidence?

5-6 whatever hes a 3rd pairing guy.

He's also been decent since coming back into the lineup. Less minutes would help IMO

Funny how saying Goaltending isn't the biggest issue gets turned into are Goaltending isn't a problem. Nobody said are Goaltending hasn't had issues. But actually trying to play defense in front of them might actually help them. We give up a lot of High Danger Shots every game. It's not just bad Goaltending, this is a team effort.

3rd line played under 9 minutes at forward

Goaltender plays the full 60 minutes

See the difference

We play a back and forth open game....

Lots of 7-1 , 6,-2 , 5-1 games for your open up hockey.

Yesterday was the exception at 6-5

Our goaltending sucks

what's kinda funny is that our worst defenseman is injured and they're better off for it. Maybe Casey should pull a hammy.

You do realize that in the 6-2 game that our goaltender stood on his head, don't you?
Is playing pond hockey sustainable? You keep dancing around that. Nobody wins long-term playing that way.

The third forward line and 3rd pairing defense don't play a lot, you're absolutely right. And in the time they are out there we are getting run over. It doesn't take much.

Just look at last night. We don't see Mitts for a loooong stretch. He makes an appearance and seconds later the puck is in the net.

Goaltending is below average. When you spend 3.3m on 2 UFA goalies, what are you expecting to get?

3rd line is 7.25m + whatever the 3rd guy makes. in 6:55 last night, they produced 1 shot and gave up 2 goals. No line changes today.

It hasn't been great, I think we can all agree on that. I don't know if it could be great given the chances we give up.

That said, I don't see any correlation between money spent on goalies and production when I look across the league. You can thrown 90% of the league's goalies in a hat and just pick one or two names. If that is true, why throw money at it? How is Campbell working out in Edmonton? And we did try to acquire goalies through a trade and free agency.

sabres are 5th from bottom in gaa
7th from bottom in save percentage
middle of the pack in shots allowed
bottom 5 in pk

4th in goals per game
7th in pp

goalies need to be better
d needs to be better
forwards need to hustle back to play d

what's amazing is we should be middle of the pack with the scoring at top 7 and d at bottom 7 but instead we are still a bottom 7 team despite the scoring

chemistry sucks aside from 2 lines

I get that goaltending can be erratic and small sample sizes mess things up, but when you're dealing with UFA's, better players make more money. You can't say there's no correlation.

Improve the team defense, goaltending looks and is better. We can blame the goalies, we can blame the bottom 6 D, but what I see is poor overall team structure defense - especially on the PK which granted is more difficult than 5v5. To me, a lot of that is coaching and holding players accountable to their responsibilities. Which I don’t see happen in game situations. Maybe the PK coach and defense coach need to be improved and start there
