Got it.
Donβt expect goalie to make hard save when needed to help team. Only makes saves that hit you in the chest or pads.
My mistake. Wonβt happen again. - ImThatGuy
Biron did a great segment on this a couple of weeks ago. When you give up a cross-ice pass near your net you are going to get scored on 40% of the time. You can ignore that if you want, but that's what happens. You can't give up those passes, period.
It's bad enough that he played them up 2 late in the game. So much worse that he chose the matchup. - Lunaion
Iβm trying to take the good with the bad with Donny but when we lose like that I want to know that Donny cares and not some non answer, learning experience, poop

Why can't he just save the first friggen chance on the 5th goal? Why does he have to let a rebound slowly dribble to Stamkos? Probably the same reason he moves laterally so slow:
He's just not good. - lacaprup
The guy broke out form the corner. Not sure what you want him to do there.... Why cant we cover anyone ever?
I know South of the border it isn't the best hockey but I would think you guys would have some basics.

Any game our goaltenders gave up 4 or more goals.
I went back to make a list. π
Pit 7-1
Seatlle 5-1
Carolina 5-3
Tampa 5-3
Plenty more.
If you give up 4 goals, your team is generally not winning.
How about you list the games our goalies won or stole for us.
Still waiting.... - Boss34
come on Boss, really?
- We scored 1 goal in two of those games. But the goalie is the issue?
- Carolina was the better team in that game
- We've beat last night to death. Complete pond hockey.
I've said all along that our goaltending has not been stellar nor has it been terrible. But sure, I'll bite. Comrie completely stole the Edmonton game. Also, we got run over defensively in the St. Louis game but UPL was first star.
There are also different kinds of scoring chances. The cross-ice passes in the slot are the worst - that's what killed us last night. The goalie is really just hoping that the puck hits him when he slides over. We didn't give those up against St. Louis and UPL stood tall.

Some of the ppl here are are actually jokes.... Its like they don't know what they are talking about.
And what it have to do with last night? - DirtyDan
it was towards any goalie would have made that save comment.... sometimes goalies suck and don't make saves they should... but it really had nothing to do with last night

Maybe if his boy could actually kill penalties it would help the goalies.
Go to 3:28 and watch Girgs give up solid position to slide across the hash marks... fvckin dumb. Legit don't know a dumber player. The googly eye an all.

It really is a joke, isn't it? If you go back and watch those goals you could see the absolute turnstile that 46 is. I've never seen so many cross-ice passes being allowed. We try to do the same thing, but in the high slot where we rely on a wicked shot to get a goal. They were getting away with that close to the net.

Almost looked like he was trying out for the Latvian Curling Team with the need slide.

Another way to look at this:
Is it sustainable to continue to give up crazy odd-man rushes and cross-ice passes in front of your net? No. It's been happening all year. Nobody can sustain that. Nobody. Saves or not, we have regularly been getting our teeth kicked in, particularly when certain players are on the ice. You can only cover up bad players for so long.
Also
When you get into a pond hockey game you're playing with fire. If a bounce goes a different way last night we aren't even having this conversation. Sure, sometimes goalies need to make a save, and sometimes they have. We can't continue playing this fast and loose.

Sabres 5th in the league with 81 goals scored
Sabres 6th in the league with goals allowed 79 scored against.

But goaltending isnt a problem ππππ
I'm done arguing, you have no clue.
Have a great day. - Boss34
So you dont' see the correlation? We are playing pond hockey most nights and that leads to goals for and against. But yeah, it must be something else. I had hoped you would post more games where we only scored 1 goal but lost because of the goalie. Maybe tomorrow.
