Yeah I think we can safely assume there aren't any trades coming
- Hank Balling

I will say about 10 days ago i did ask Ek to post a rumor Horvat and Sabres. You know, just as a joke because I personally want Horvat for the Sabres. I think he saw that post and ran with it.

With a different center I think we're looking at an acceptable/fine third line. I'd love to see evidence from anyone refuting Mittelstadt as the weak(est) link
- TheSabresTaco

For this season, sure.

If they truly want to be a cup contender long term, they're going to need better then all 3 of those on a line.

Ya know, Adam Henrique wouldn't be a terrible idea as a replacement.

skinner scores to make it 5-3

then the casey line is on the ice and 16 seconds later stamkos scores

- homiedclown

Yep, that's the one. You can't put them out against Stammer. He was on fire last night.

He put them on the ice for a draw on the dot just outside the Sabre blueline. Shocker it ended with a Stamkos goal. That's on Don. Expecting Stamkos to not eat up Vic is straight up amateur when you have the home ice last change.
- lacaprup

it was a brutal decision, I'd love to know the thinking behind it.

I thought the same thing but I can't see Columbus being interested. Then again, they suck, so what do I know.

ill buy that.

i dont like the idea of using more kids to build another line, especially without a strong center option, but at this point, is that where we're headed?

I'm gonna have to take the Granato path and say "you know, that's a hard one for me to comment on"

Cozens had 0.48 ppg over 82 games last year. Currently at 0.76. He's a fun story.

So is my boy Jack Quinn, because he's playing in the NHL and the other guy isn't.

at this point, if donnie does not put casey in the presser for a few games and play krebs, then casey will be the hill this season dies on

Granato basically laughed about the current trade rumors.

He essentially refused to comment on goaltending. That said a lot. Don is a very nice man. That's about as much as he's gonna throw anyone under the bus.

- lacaprup

Don is a nice man. Okposo, Skinner and Anderson are all nice men. None will be in Buffalo when the team starts to contend.

I’m pouring my bowl of crow on Quinn.

Not eating it yet but prepping it.

Could be more than that if they don't start improving.

Agreed with all but Skinner. He doesn't hold the team back in the least. In fact he put the nail in Tampa's coffin last night until UPL busted that coffin wide open.

Granato is a teacher, and a very good one at that. When it comes to situational hockey and the win column, he's sorely lacking. If this team wants to contend, they're going to have to move on from him eventually. It sucks because he's very likable, and what he's done for a lot of these guys as individuals is great, but there's only so far he can take this team.

Granato would be better suited for a president of Hockey ops/Player development role.

I don't know. I think he's the perfect coach for a team who's rebuilding and immediate expectations are low, and I'm not being sarcastic. A president of hockey might operations have the idea of moving Tage Thompson to center, but it's really hard to sell a coach on that vision unless he's a complete "yes man". I don't think guys like Thompson or Dahlin become the players they are today if Granato is upstairs instead of behind the bench. However, there's a significant tradeoff he seems weak in game management. Maybe that improves with experience, but I'm not entirely optimistic.

Good morning gents. I took a bit of a break from this forum - I think the losing streak really bummed me out a bit - a lot of people here are motivated to post when they aren't good, but that's not me.

Two months into the season I think I got some things right and some things wrong.

Things that I think I got right:

- We needed to let the kids play big minutes on the scoring line instead of going out and signing big-name vets. The Cozens line is ridiculous right now and I don't think that happens if they are playing 3rd line minutes behind guys that won't be here in 4 years. Could not be happier with those guys.
- Adams is the right guy for the job. The last couple of drafts look to be outstanding, and the contracts he has given out are going to be ridiculous bargains.

Things that I think I got wrong:

- Mitts. I still believed in him. His early play on the PK was excellent. He is killing that line.
- 46. He looked good early but then he got hurt and he has been downright awful.
- More defensive help. I'll couch this one a bit as I thought the D was alright when I thought 46 was good. The third forward line and 3rd defensive pair are absolutely killing us right now. Go get Chiquorin.

Things that worry me

- Meatballs. Is he too loyal to some of these guys? I know he is trying to make the team into a family but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade. Almost every game there is a really questionable lineup decision. I am not a huge fan of Krebs but you can't do what they are doing to him. Mitts is downright bad. You can see Quinn as a future star - why did he sit when his stats were very good?

I'm not calling for him to be fired, not yet anyway. We're in a season where the team signed an invalid before free agency started just to get to the cap floor. You might as well let the development process play out since the win column isn't that important to the people upstairs.

You coach what you are given, Donnie basically has been given 1/2 a team so far.
