Does anyone disagree that the best thing for this team to do is lose games and get a top 3 pick?
If tou disagree, then pleaae, explain the better route so that I underatand.

Thank you

The best thing for this team has little to do with draft position and everything to do with a complete and total front office purge

He's streaky but it's easy to like his game when he's on. He has chemistry with Frost although they haven't had simultaneous good games on the same night in the last couple games they've been together.

This is where a organization goes from playoff contenders to cup contenders. The key is getting talent as consistent as they can be. Tippet has the talent for sure.
If he has the drive is what the flyers need to determine. If not then he should be traded.

With the current players he has available to him, he doesn't have 6 legitimate top 6 players. There is no doubt that he is trying to win now. He's trying to win every game.

It's just a sad state of affairs if ZM is on our second line. Do we not have any better options thwn ZM?
That's a serious question and wanting opinions. Is there nobody in the AHL to call up and give them a cup of tea so that they can go back to the phantoms? It may help them develop of they know what they need to work on to male ot to the NHL.
Isn't that what playing the kids means?
I just don't agree with Torts approach thus far. Not that he gives a poop but I just don't get some of his choices and line combos

Name those 13-14 everyday NHL players. Not part timers. Defend to the end. He was/is and average Andy at best.

Gave them a nice base before reality set in and the picks were exposed to being nothing special by any means nor as good as the hype. Then the current GM blew it by keeping them all.

Here is a start with one group even you can’t dispute: TK, TS, IP, CH, NC, FS, NAK. Where is the CF pick who is going to contribute? I could be wrong but I think we are still waiting.

What does Chuck Fletcher have to do with my post? You want to talk about his drafts then go ahead.

That doesn’t add up to 13/14 by my count.

Outside of a 1st rd pick those other draft picks are years away from helping the current coach.

He has no long term view at all. He thinks ZM's hustle and making himself look busy > skill players. Damn right it is purposeful.

So if you are rebuilding why would you hire a coach of Torst ilk?

- furio16

They hired Torts a year or two too early, imo. First tank then build the culture around the talent that you drafted.
That would be my approach but feltcher is just graspig for straws at this poijt

Sbisa and Morin were awful 1st-round picks. Marshall, Klotz and Ghoul were easily avoidable wastes of top-90 picks.

179th-overall on Nick Luukko because nepotism > winning.

Of the good ones, Ghost was jerked around for years by multiple coaches. Chief tried so hard to ruin Coots by playing him w/ garbage players and burying him in the dzone. Maroon was banished for still undisclosed behavioral reasons. And JVR was traded away for Luke Schenn, lol.

Not to mention all the times the Flyers didn't even have their top-90 picks because Homer was so busy trading them away.

It was an ugly picture. Hexy had a few hits at least and left us with some goalies. Cliff is a major disappointment in all regards. Bias for action has killed us. The fact that these guys still have jobs tells you all you need to know about the organization. Maybe it would be better for them to move to Houston and let us start over.

Fair answer. However, while we stockpile the bottom feeder draft picks we can hope and pray that the FObsees turnover while we continue to suck.
We need elite talent and we also need a new direction for this franchise.

There really isn't just one thing alone that will fix this mess

So passive some games…4 man front gets “zero” pressure.

Sbisa was not an awful first round pick. He made the team out of training camp and showed promise his rookie year. He was then traded to Anaheim as part of the package to obtain Chris Pronger. He was a second pair number 3 or 4 defensemen. Morin was just unfortunate tearing his knee up.The tragedy of that draft year the Flyers picked Sbisa was trading the 2nd of the 2 first round they had to Washington for Steve Emerick who always played well aganst the Flyers. Washington selected John Carlson who is a top defensemen. The hockey news projected the Flyers to draft Carlson as did The Philadelphia Dailey News hockey writers. Could you imagine if the Flyers Picked Carlson?

Yes. Watched this yesterday. He pretty much nails it.

I especially like the part where he says this thing can take up to 8 years and the organization gave up on Hextall halfway through.

Go time. Remember when ronnie signed JVR to $7 mil a season.

Not saying chuck is great but what delusional world are you living in. St Ronnie wiffed on so many picks. Not only did he not draft talent he left us w virtually no nhl players all ahl caliber. At least chuck has guys everyone seems excited about. Short memory I guess

- Fopa21

Yeah delusional ok. I think you’re clearly biased against everything hextall and cant see it. As evidenced by your saint Ronnie comments. Just because you say it over and over doesn’t mean it’s fact . Not all the picks worked out but that’s the case for all teams. He did draft some very good complements that have languished since chuck can here. At least he had a plan. I was willing to give it a chance under the new regime but it’s insanely bad. The current state is an epic failure no cap and likely the worst team iced in the history of the franchise. There is no way that the team could have been worse off staying the course when you look at the record.

Exactly. My point is that under that watch at least there was a plan. I think hextall stuck to his guns and the ego maniacs running the show said I’ll show him and destroyed the franchise. It’s clear that they might as well have kept up with hextalls plan or a similar one in order to move forward.

Hextall drafted I believe 13-14 players in 5 drafts that have become NHL players. Obviously lacking an elite player so it can't be great, but it wasn't awful either. Gave the team a nice base to build on and left the team better than when he started.
- MJL

… and the part we forget is that he didn’t have the team right to the cap with all kinds of bad signings while also being a bottom feeder. With cap flexibility he could take on a short term bad contract in order to make a deal for more picks. He knew the way in todays nhl to build was solely through drafting and the more picks you have the better chance you have to hit on those. I could see the plan even if it was going to take a long time. It took teams like colorado and t bay a long time to build those rosters. Now, if there’s a plan I don’t know what it is.

There is a plan. Spend every dime you have and make any move you can every year to try and win. Thank goodness. I mean, look at how much worse this team would be if they didn't sign Deslauriers to that 4 year contract. Look at all the space the Flyers young players are getting.
