It also didn’t hurt that the 05-06 squad still featured Forsberg, Gagne, Knuble, Handzus, Kapanen, Desjardins and Johnsson and they were coached by the very capable Hitchcock.

They also were willing to trade their expiring contracts for addition high round draft picks, as opposed to overpay to resign them...As they did this over the past 4-5 years, how many more playoff games have the Flyers won using their "heavy veteran" philosophy?

The Patrick selection was a HUGE swing and a miss. Especially considering the alternatives. That miss at #2 has killed them combined with abject failure in management since then.
