You clearly don’t grasp it is about evaluating.
I think the coach likes a certain type of player no matter if that player is good bad or indifferent. He will play said player over others no matter what. He is not a good coach for where the Flyers are at and where they are a headed. - furio16
And there you have it… you answered your own question. The coach likes a certain type of player… one that listens and follows directions I assume you mean… you are also assuming Torts hasn’t evaluated ZM or the other players.. you simply disagree with his assessment. He believes over yourself that ZM deserves more ice time. I will reserve judgement on whether or not he’s a good coach until I see a see a little more of this season. I hope they show some structural improvements and protect Hart a lot more then I’ve seen and what he said we would see. |

The issue with Torts, and his mystical development is that the appearance of effort is king above all.
Which is completely asinine. You can play like dogpoop, but if you play North/South while looking busy. You're in. - FlyerFan3260
It starts with effort and commitment… this team hasn’t played that way in two years with any consistency… one of the reasons they suck. I honestly have no idea if what he’s selling will fly or with how many guys are going to blossom (if any) under him….I do know they are no worse then they’ve been , not that that’s a very high bar. He wants some of these younger guys, who by the way have had little to no success at the NHL level to up their compete… I’m fine with that part of it. |

He isn’t evaluating much imo. He is trying his best to win with what he has, he has no concern for next week let alone next year.
So ZM listens and follows directions and the others do not. Now I understand why he plays. Got it.
Like a certain type no matter if they are good or not. Great way to coach. It will lead to much success with how hockey is played today.
Torts is a fraud and can’t wait for it up blow up. Hopefully he comes up with some new facial expressions.
Are coaches infallible? |

There has to be some reason he’s playing. This team sucked the last two years and sucks now. In the end you may be right about Torts…I just haven’t seen enough to blame another coach. I also think that or at least hope some of these younger guys elevate their play and start to play more then Nic and ZM…it’s already going to be a long year, I’m hoping by the end some of the future actually starts to produce at the NHL.

Let me be clear no coach in the history of the NHL can win with this group of losers.
My issue is usage and deployment. He talks a good game but his actions say otherwise. He isn’t coaching towards any future success imo.
This is why you play them the extra minutes kw to see if they have anything to offer.

Oh, I agree with the larger point. The Flyers development of players has been suspect for a long time. What the Flyers do essentially is they take a right handed player and tie his hand behind his back and tell him to play left handed. Once he has mastered that, then and only then can he play with his strengths. - MJL
This may be the beat analogy of how this franchise develops it's players. Who knows how many careers have been ruined being developed here.

Mark Giordano is 39 and playing for $800k.
He played 24:43 last night
He's been on for just 5 goals against at five-on-five through 21 games.
No defenceman in the NHL with 200+ minutes has been on for less goals against per minutes. |

Ugh, here comes the tenth loss |

Pens look dizzy. Flyers so bad it made them rusty facing a quality opponent the game after. |

I'm sure Torts really does not like Hayes' game, but he is the only forward who has produced offense consistently. |

I can see Anisimov called up and Willman or Laczynski aent down. Get the next Torts guy up here with Sedlak playing well tonight. |

The Flyers would have to trade a player to open up a contract space and then sign Anisimov to a contract for him to be eligible for a call up.

That would not shock me considering Torts seems content to leave Hayes on the wing. Or another forward. Fletcher and crew were in LV. Willman has been invisible since his call up. Winless streak up to double digits, time to reshuffle the deck chairs on the Titanic. |

Congratulations Chuck with another 10 game losing streak. 4 years of historical negative losing records. |

5 game home stand is brutal. The next 10 games in total, don't see many wins. This winless streak has a real shot to expand greatly.
