most fans knew playoffs was unlikely and the expectations was to improvement in the standings but OTT is at the same position it has been in the last 5 years with no improvement. The team has better top 9, better D with Sanderson in and zeitsev out and better G than the past 5 years and yet still bottom 5, only common denominator is the coaching staff.

Many here seems to think that new ownership would fire everyone when they take over, but if OTT was winning, they would not do anything, if it aint broken...this is why it is puzzling that Dorion is so willing to die on the DJ smith hill

The hard part for most fans to understand is that investors (team buyers) use an entirely different evaluation model. Most of the heavy hitters don't even care if the team makes money in the short term (they will not). Money is made from the long term investment strategy, a new building, other entertainment opportunities and related commercial ventures. Bettman does not want anyone near this wonderful Ottawa franchise if their goal/need is to make a short term profit.

DJ has become a huge issue for some fans. But he is just not a factor in the ownership dance. Dorion and the GM position is different. Other than for the franchise itself, the young players are the most valued asset of the Sens. This is why the big moves to lock in Chabot, Brady, Norris, Timmy (and soon to be others) into long term deals.

If Brady and the players want DJ, he stays (at least for the short term). However, it is hard to imagine a new owner allowing Dorion to remain in the GM slot. Perhaps Dorion will be offered a different role within the new organizational structure. But, it would be corporate negligence if the new ownership failed to take control of the general manager function.

Within 6 weeks, we should hear the name of a presumptive owner begin to emerge. Everything will change on that day. Nothing will get done unless it meets with what people think Lonnie Gliberman wants.

More likely to court/jail if findings are as speculated in many blogs/media. They have 48 hours left to sign him as of today and not likely they will, even if Ottawa retains his contract rights he will be ineligible to play in the league this year. If he signs after, likely only possible to play him in the AHL for the rest of the season.

Cannot tell a lie. I was hoping the Sens would be lucky and Byfield would drop down to#3. Worse, I was hoping that they would take Marco Rossi at #5. And, I did not like when they took Brady at #4 in his draft. Drafting would not be something that I would think I would be very good at.
- spatso

I was hoping for a perfect situation where we got Lafreniere and Byfeild. Not that I didn’t like Stu, I just bought the hype of the other two. Still early in their careers, but I am very happy the Sens landed Stu over those two thus far. However, we’ve chatted about how young Stu is and there is still room for growth. Laf and Byfeild should be reserved the same point.

As for the #2 pick after Stu hypothetical discussion, I think I would take Raymond over Sanderson. However, Sanderson game has impressed me. I was not overly thrilled taking a d-man higher than his scouting rank in a COVID plagued year, but he has the tools for a franchise pillar d-man. Just has to work on consistency with timing which can come with age.

think all sens fans wanted 1-2 but Laf is a bust, there is no arguing that in any way shape or form and Byfield is still a prospect so cannot label him anything but as a prospect.

It was basically a coin flip for most people as I recall.

I remember a lot of debate regarding if Byfield's size gave him leg up on his competition which wouldn't be there in the bigger leagues.

I haven't watched any of htis games in the NHL so can't say if that's been the case.

They're both still prospects - they're 21 years old - but clearly the tried tradition of throwing the first overall to the wolves right away has sunk Laf's stock. Didn't work for presumed first overall Wright this year either, isn't really working for Slafkovsky. Lafrenière will be a career NHLer, but he'll never live up to first overall status in relation to his draft peers. It took awhile for Hughes, Hischier, and Dahlin to settle in, but they all look pretty solid now. Still early days for Laf but I'm certainly not regretting the Sens falling to 3rd.

Laf is NOT a prospect he is in his 3rd year in the NHL and Hishier had 10 less points in his first year than Laf has in his first 2 year +23 games, Hughes took till his 3rd year to be a top 6, Laf so far in his 3rd year is on pace for 11G and 25A, he is a 3rd line player, Dahlin is a D, they have a different curve than Forwards of G. Laf is on the same trajectory as Yakupov.

If I were him I'd go play in the KHL. Decent money and no crazy stuff to deal with.

I don't know why this investigation is taking so long but I suspect it might have more to do with the use of Hockey Canada funding than with any individual case of impropriety.

We live in a crazy world. I have seen videos on youtube of gatherings where half naked men dressed in leathers are shaking their privates into the faces of little kids, like 6 year old kids, while the parents laugh and the crowd cheers. I saw one where a 6 year old little girl was actually stroking the penis of a leather clad half naked man while the parents laughed and the crowd cheered.

I've seen one of those morning shows where a ten year old little boy who had been making tours of adult strip clubs across the US performing his highly sexualized act do his routine on stage in front of an audience that clapped and cheered.

I see many instances of all kinds of highly sexualized individuals being given access to kindergartners to speak to them about their sexuality. We're talking 4 and 5 year olds.

None of this depravity and much more is being questioned. That woman, Maxwell, was convicted almost a year ago of selling children for sexual purposes and yet not a single one of her customers has been investigated or charged.

Strange world we live in.

If Formenton was an bumhole and he and some friends took advantage of a young, drunk girl then he should face some kind of repercussions. I have no problem with that. Have young guys on top of the world done this in the past? I'm pretty sure it's happened. Has every straight, white guy who has ever played hockey done this because that's what hockey culture is about? Pretty sure not

The problem for Formenton is that it doesn't matter what actually happened. The people who support or are silent about all of the degenerate perversity and depravity that I've mentioned above, and there is lots lots more, need an easy target on which they can display their moral purity. He doesn't have a chance.

He should go to Russia and then they can all call him a Putin lover who wants to murder poor innocent Ukrainians but at least he can have a life. Meet a nice Russian woman, get married, have kids and not have to worry about sick, degenerate fu_ks grooming his kids in kindergarten because in Russia that is still a crime.

I am really keen for tonight's game. Despite all the recent struggles, I still believe in the young talent on this team. They are a fun team to follow. I want to believe they discovered something about themselves in LA.

They have a very good schedule in December. Can they get back to .500 before New Years?

Everything is now turned a little upside down. Some of the guys have stepped up saying they are responsible for all the criticism being directed towards DJ. The next few weeks will be interesting.

Brady named DeBrincat as the player of the game for his back check on a partial LA breakaway. I liked that a lot!

There's lots of crazy stuff in the KHL, like not getting paid and having contracts written different in Russian than English to screw the player. I don't know that Russia is the best choice for 'not crazy'.

Also, you watch some weird videos.

Well there's about 37 Canadians playing in the KHL so Formenton could ask them what they think.

I remember listening to some of those players explain why they chose to decline playing for Team Canada at the Worlds last year and they basically said they had no interest in subjecting themselves to the nonsense going on in the lunatic asylum that Canada has become. They didn't use those words exactly because they are too polite and diplomatic but that's what they really meant. They were very happy where they were thank you very much.

I watch and read all kinds of stuff because I like to have an some idea of what's going on around me and you're absolutely right about some of it being weird. I'd say some of it is not just weird but positively Kafkaesque.

I was listening to the post game interviews and Giroux acknowledged that he had made a really bad pass to Chabot putting him in a tough spot and then when Chabot was in the corner and Giroux was skating around the back of the net Chabot said Giroux was shouting reverse reverse which is why Chabot laid that puck out for him but Giroux just skated right by it. Meanwhile on the other side Stutzle was getting ready to turn up the boards and go assuming Giroux would be carrying the puck out of the zone but Chabot says he started shouting Timmy Timmy and fortunately Stutzle was able to spot the puck, get it, beat his man and make that great pass.

Spatso had me thinking that it was a planned maneuver they had practiced but it seems it was just Giroux playing for himself and Chabot and Stutzle saving the situation.
For some reason this causes me to entertain some doubt in my mind about how good Giroux will be for this team in the long run. I really hope I'm just being silly.

I was joking when I said it was planned. But, serious when I said that they should tell everyone that they had planned and regularly practiced the manoeuvre.

I was not a huge fan of signing either Giroux or DeBrincat. I wanted a top 4 Dman and if they added a forward I was hoping for more size (M. Tkachuk, Pierre Luc Dubois, Evander Kane.

Having said that, both Giroux and Debrincat have been good and they will get even better.

Noticed a comment from DJ this morning saying that Giroux has been outstanding in the dressing room and more than he expected.

I really liked the Evander Kane idea and everybody wanted that top 4 RD but I'm glad they didn't let themselves get ripped off for Chychrun who I never saw as a good fit.

For anyone still thinking that coaching doesn't matter in the NHL, tell them to take a hard look at the Winnipeg Jets. The only difference between this year and last for them is Rick Bowness.

Now...looking at other RD options how do we feel about Dante Fabbro?

I heard Fabbro's name floated as well, seems to have fallen out of favour in Nashville. He's decent size, the right age, right handedness, right cap hit. I wonder if his name being floated is because his agent is playing hardball and extension asks are high, or because he has arb rights. A top 6 RD for Nashville is likely expendable because of what Jordan Gross is doing in Milwaukee (who also is on a one way deal next year). If Fabbro continues at his current pace he shouldn't cost too much to extend. What would y'all give up?

The Sens play the Preds on Dec 10 so I'll keep in mind to pay attention to Fabbro. I kind of know that he was not making much of a splash since being drafted but apparently some think he was rushed into the NHL straight from college and that hurt his development. It seems he's playing a little bit better of late but some of the analytics are still not looking good at all.

I went back and read a scouting report from 2016 and that sure looked promising but I would say he would be a gamble and there's no way of knowing what number he would want to extend for so there's that. Proceed with extreme caution and don't give away anything big just because the guy was a first rounder.

Nope but it wasn’t completely clear if you were talking about actually watching child porn or videos about child porn performances. The first is clearly illegal, the second just a bit disturbing depending on the frequency.
