A lot, but a interesting idea, and it really doesn't even put a dent in are system.

So it would be Buffalo sending Rosen, Jokiharju, Huglen, and a top 10 protected 2024 1st?

The pick being a 2024 1st, and it being top 10 protected, pushes the deal to be a yes for me.

COULD THE SABRES OR LEAFS PURSUE CHYCHRUN?

SPORTSNET: With Jakob Chychrun returning to action last week for the first time this season, Jeff Marek wondered if the Buffalo Sabres might be a dark-horse candidate to acquire the 24-year-old Arizona Coyotes defenseman.

Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams has maintained he’s sticking with youth. However, Marek noted that “there is a feeling out there” that they’re running their young blueliners (Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power and Mattias Samuelsson) hard this season. He believes they’ve got their young core locked in that doesn’t need any more prospects and need to start putting together their team.

Buffalo Sabres
Record: 9-11-0, 7th in Atlantic

Playoff tier: It’s a long shot

Trade deadline buyer or seller? Seller

Analysis: The Sabres have shown some life with a recent two-game winning streak, but they dug themselves a hole by losing eight in a row in regulation. It would take a heroic effort for this young team to climb the standings and get into the playoffs. While they don’t have a ton of pieces to sell, I imagine the Sabres’ phone lines will be open at the deadline if teams are interested in some of their older players.

At 9-12 they are not where anybody would want to be.
Flip side is they have had about 12 games with good vibes, having played some very strong teams in their 12 losses, several games without 2 or 3 of their top 4 Dmen.
Good news to me iS:
-JJ looks the part, still need more growth needed
-Quinn looks to be figuring it out, still need alot more growth
-Cozens is taking the next step
-as a result of those three above, a very young 2nd line seems to be building...but alot more work there
-Dahllin proving last year was no fluke
-Thompson proving last year was no fluke, with the promise of much more
Samuelsson proving his worth on top pairing
-Skinner proving he is more than 1 dimensional
-Power looks like a future #1 Dmaan
-Tuch is proving to be a top 6 player aand meshes perfectly with Skinner and Tage, they have their L1
-Lyubushkin is ok for 3rd PAIR
-Bryson looks llike a tweener 3rd pair/ 7th D
-Clague looks like decent 7 or 8 for call-ups

Things not rcertain yet
- Comrie, a tale of 2 cities. Will be interesting to see how he plays when he returns
- UPL played well, but too small of a sample size...will be fun to ssee how he performs
- Asplund's O game, does it exist?
- Is Krebs an NHLer? The clock is ticking.
- Can Mitts contribute at EV?
- do they really need Okposo, even on aa cheap vet contract?
- does Girgs fit in the future? Is his style what they want for the future 4th line?

Probably left some guys out

I'm more than ready to let the following go
-Joker
-Mitts
-Krebs
-Girgs (TDL candidate)
-Okposo (not happening)
-Olofsson (keep posting pts at EV to make it happen)
-2023-2nds
-2023-1st protected though
-a couple prospects

Should be able to find two guys that fit from that collection

Halfway through a long-form interview with Craig Anderson on the penultimate episode of 32 Thoughts. Very enjoyable. He's an interesting guy.

Okposo is shot. Last year he had some sort of speed burst. Maybe a 3rd gear speed burst. Now he hangs onto the puck for too long and skates it up and loses it

He also makes some terrible passes.

Imagine if we spent to the cap. This team could have been and still could be augmented to make a much better team with a more diverse skill set that consequently makes it much harder to play against.

Year #1 of prime Dahlin and Thompson wasted

I'd say this is year 2 of their primes, and cap floor in both of them.

The way they drafted recently means they have to make trades...and KA has shown no ability to do so.

Well...Dahlin did not step into his own until about game 25 or so last season. He was bad to start the year. Remember him getting walked 8 separate times before game 20?

And, he hit last year, but he's a physical presence this year in addition to generally being the most gifted offensive player on the ice. He's dropping people every game.
