Another great game for Miller. 7 more years of his alpha leadership.
- Marwood

The team just doesn’t compete hard enough for pucks when it matters. On the Pietrangelo goal, Boeser just passively waves at him before he goes in and scores. It’s not acceptable! Changes need to be made. #waitandsee

I really hope that the Canucks ignore most of what the amateur scouts say at the draft and listen to what the analytics guys have to say. Enough of "he can really shoot the puck". Need players that drive play whether it be a top 6 or a bottom 6. Defenders that can defend the front of the net and the blue line.

Who the (frank) in the pro scouting department though that OEL would be a good addition. Not the analytics guys, that's for sure.

I have no idea if analytics show the solid type players you are referring to, because most analytics I read, tend to favour the shiny, not so responsible players.
Other than that I agree with your thoughts, on the types of players needed.

I think what some fans don't understand is what a 200' player is.
Some tend to attach it to players who score points and contribute defensively, some attach it to players who have good puck possession numbers and others attach it to players who are constantly aware of, and capable of being good positional players.
Right now, the Canucks currently have 3 solid 200' players and 2(Lazar and Aman) of them are playing on the 4th line, the other being Pouty, who has improved his 200' game, immensely.

- Reubenkincade

Playing both ends of the ice well. Aman and Lazar aren't exactly great offensively.

Last year 9 out of 38 nominated selke players scored less than 40 points. I doubt Aman and Lazar are going to get near 40 this season.

I dunno man, Mark Stone was a long shot to stick in the NHL. Do you honestly believe that if Boeser had been drafted by the Bruins, coached by Cassidy, playing along side Bergeron/Marchand with Chara etc that he would be the same player he is today with the Canucks?

I also think that there are probably 6 teams that would and could trade for Miller, but like I said, I doubt the Canucks are getting a lot for him. Though, I didn’t think they would get a lot when he was on a bargain contract with 99 points and one year remaining.

- 1970vintage

Of course Mark Stone was a Longshot, he was a 5th or 6th round pick, but once he got into the Ottawa lineup, he continued improving and worked hard on his game.
As I have said before, sometimes, with some of these players, the leagues and/or coaching they have recieved do not emphasize certain aspects of the game, nor do they try to round out the players game at the level they are at.
Some of the basic hockey fundamentals appear to be lacking, hence why there is so much stickwaving and puckwatching going on in the league today.

I realize they aren't getting 40 points. My point is, they are pretty responsible, all over the ice, which is what the hockey world, not us fans, deem to be a 200' player.

This is a team that thought it was a good idea to give Miller a long overpaid extention with a NMC. Wait and see what? We've been waiting for 8 years and what I've seen makes me want to carve my eyes out with a rusty fork.

Defending the front of the net, there isn't exactly a stat for that. There is one for blue line.

They have stats for just about everything now a days. Depending on how you read them. Something as simple as this.

You call them shinny, I call them the future which is already here players.

Agreed.
If you take a look at the video of the 4th goal against, although a really bad play by Demko, #43 sure didn't help out his goaliie in anyway.
He had the puck, lost it then after that, he got into his usual defensive puckwatching mode, expecting someone else to do something.

Also, unacceptable.

Without seeing the game, or at least some highlights of what the stat is showing, then analytics are somewhat questionable.

Boudreau: ‘we practice on defending every day. You guys are up there, you see it, that’s all we…we don’t work on too much offense. We’re scoring enough goals but we work on defending. But obviously it still needs more work’

Stillman: 1 pt in 11 gp
Miller: 18 pts in 19 gp

Miller's been bad but this isn't a good comparison

Defence is terrible, forwards aren't willing to engage. It's pretty simple.

Hard to coach a group that doesn't want to sacrifice, hence the stickwaving and puckwatching.

On the defence they need at least 3 better defenders.

On offence, they score goals as Bruce said. Just too bad, they are all sacrificing defence in the name of offence.

They need a better mix of players.
