Hearing the Leafs, now being without their top three d-men due to injury, are stepping up the search for a D-man. Off course Chychrun has been someone that is being scouted by everyone now that he is back and playing…I’ve written plenty on that….

However, there is something WAY bigger brewing under the radar….but won’t be for long…

I am also hearing that a deal could be worked out to bring Erik Karlsson to the blue and white…

I am told it would require Chicago getting involved as a thyroid team and of course salary being eaten along the way, but can you imagine the Leafs with Karlsson leading the rushes and power play?

Two sources are telling me it could happen as early as this weekend….

I will off course continue to track this…

In order for KD to eat 4 years of retention on Karlsson's salary the return to the Hawks would have to be a big overpay. I also think KD does not want to retain as you have to figure Kane and Toews are 2 of the slots, and he would want to keep one open at the TDL if something else comes up.

Any news on what exactly the Nazar injury/surgery was?
- glennjpawlak22

The last thing that anyone has noted on the subject was from Oct 19th. Lower body injury that needed surgery. Don't think you will get anything more than that.

Good point. It is crazy how poor some of the Hawks are at receiving good passes. (Granted there is not an over abundance of good passes. But still....)
- -Doh-

Not really that crazy. The Hawks roster is filled with a whole bunch of low skill guys who compete hard. R. Johnson, Khaira, Blackwell, Entwhistle, Richardinson, Lafferty, Katchouk. None of those guys have much in the way of hands. Yeah, they hustle and maybe create chances by hard forecheck, forcing turnovers or working the walls, but none of them is gonna come close to winning any skills competition.

At least they work hard, better than watching Alex Nylander with all the skill in the world float and coast his way thru games.

I would agree that the only chance of KD retaining salary for 4 years on anybody is for a great return of picks and/or prospects, and I don't see that happening. Also, lets not forget that the Hawks are carrying salary for Keith, Borgstrom and Connely thru next season also, not a huge amount but still a factor.

Yes a huge overpay and then this would become the TDL deal.

As long as you are all retiring numbers, what about Lou? #6 needs to go up, and not for Bob Murray either.

i saw a mention of a sports hernia but it wasn't a definitive statement. The timeline would track if that is the case.

Be better than a knee. Which I would think would be mentioned but who knows.

Calm down. Loved little Lou but..

If they are going to retire 7, it should be for Seabs, only. (frank) Chelios. Let the Habs or Wings retire his number

Sports hernia was mentioned on the NBC Sports podcast around when they announced it, but it sounds kind of like they were speculating vs reporting.

Don't think 28 gets retired here. He sat out demanding a trade. That season he would have passed Jarvis for the most consecutive games streak. Long memories on Madison.

Seabrook #7 should go up first. He and Keith turned the franchise around. Keith retired early sticking the Hawks with cap recapture.

88 and 19 for sure.

Doubt 4 or 10 get it but strong arguments can be made for both. Going to be a long time till this franchise makes the playoffs let alone wins 3 Cups in an era.

Both San Jose and Toronto still have their 1st round picks for the next 3 years. Have to think half of Karlsson's salary for 4 years is worth 2 or 3 first rounders.

Keith did zero material damage to the Hawks by retiring. Even if he did, that would be on Bettman for retroactively making a legal contract illegal. Not on the player at all.

Ek stirring up some fun for the holidays. Would anyone care to explain why the Hawks are considered a "thyroid team"? Asking for Mo.

That is the new marketing scheme to replace the Indian head. Ek has sources ya know.

This will be emblazoned on the sweaters starting next season. One Goal. One Thyroid. Cold Steel on Synthroid.

I have no idea what a thyroid team means! Maybe it is Canadian lingo that can be explained by Paulie?

EK is just showing off. Since the Thyroid is the major gland to help the body grow and develop, the Blackhawks would be the team needed to make this trade develop and grow.
