I understand why people like Frost and why people don’t. All NHL players are scouted. I wonder what other scouts think of him. “He’s really good, but since he consistently plays with scrubs it doesn’t show in the box score.” Or “Doesn’t live up to his Junior ratings in the NHL regardless of his line mates.” I have opinions like everyone on this board like some people watching ZM for a handful of games and saying “he sucks” and doesn’t belong on an NHL roster, but after watching Frost for parts of 3 years still thinks he can be really good, just give him time. I don’t know about that, but I do know if you are talented it shows all the time regardless of the line mates.

Laughton needs to have the “A” removed. The crosscheck was dumb and not needed last night and it wasn’t the first time this season he’s done it either. A good leader would know that the PK is struggling and a dumb penalty could hurt the team. So what does he do…

Call me slow but I really notice these days that 55 is probably the worst Dman suiting up. It really is a shame that that albatross of a contract will be on the books for a while. At least when AMac was signed to his big contract he was effective for a couple of years.

I wonder if any team in the NHL has filled their roster the last 3 years with as many waiver claims as the Flyers? It is truly an indictment of previous drafting, incompetent development, and management.

There, I said my piece for this week.

If the Flyers right now would play Zamula on the top pairing in all situations for 23-25 minutes a game. Would his talent show in that situation?

Same thing happens every year. Through October, teams get better. Their team play improves. Players get to a higher level with their timing and shooting. That's what is happening. Flyers rode hot goaltending and a few players playing well offensively.
- MJL

Yeah, for sure. The gap between the good and bad teams just grows bigger and bigger after everybody gets their new players and new wrinkles ironed out.

Gonna be a lot harder to play like poop and win from here on out.

I have no idea what the rational is for Zamula. Send him down to LV. As mentioned last night with Laughton out, probably expect Anisimov to be called up. Another kick in the nuts, but I want them to drop in the standings like a rock. so bring him up.

This!! Drop as many games as we can. We have a lot of competition for worst team in thw league though.... we better start sucking harder like every other feltcher team has

The Flyers have a real shot to drop below 3 more teams by the weekend. That puts them around 8th worst. The MTL was probably max goal output this roster can achieve. One goal was off a faceoff win, which we know rarely happens. This offense looks to be about 2 goals/game. Going to be hard to string together wins with that offense. Last year, this team was the worst in the league in the 2nd half. Right now, this roster is even worse. I feel confident they will be at least top 3 by the trade deadline.

Well then, why isn’t he on the top pairing, playing all those minutes, and in all situations? He doesn’t belong there and nothing has shown that he should, pretty simple.
Do you believe that he deserves all of what you proposed?

I already answered one of your follow up questions. Now you're asking me more. You still haven't answered the question I proposed to you.

I didn't propose any of that nor did I state that he belongs there. The question I asked you is if he was placed in that spot, do you think his talent would show through?

It’s a silly thing to ask, but any talents that he has will show, but so will his weaknesses and he has many. Like Frost and any person on the team including the 4th liners, they all have talent of some kind or else they wouldn’t have made to the NHL. The question is when have you seen enough to realize that their skills at one level isn’t consistently visible at the next for the role that is expected of them? Each player’s path is different. There isn’t a one path fits all and I’m sure you know that which is why I was taken aback by the silliness of your initial proposal.

It's not a silly thing to ask. Not with the statement that you made. Which I think is incorrect.
If Zamula was put in that spot, his talent would not show through. Simply because he would be overwhelmed in every manner. In terms of experience, physical play and ability level at this point of his development as a player. The overwhelming majority of fans would say this guy stinks. Get him off the ice.
First of all, it wasn't a proposal. It was a hypothetical and you calling it that shows that you didn't get it. So, I'll explain it to you. Most fans are not capable or not willing to see subtleties from a player when there is a low volume of instances of a player showing his talent and ability. They want a player to stand out in order to believe a player will be a good player. The question is how this relates to Frost. Frost's strengths as a player and his main skill and talent are playing with the puck. When he's playing with linemates who are grinders and don't play with the puck much. Combined with low ice time of 2-3 shifts a period at ES. A player like Frost is not going to have his talent show through for the average fan. The more advanced fan may still see brief glimpses of it. Overall, though it's not going to show through enough for the player to stand out to the fan base overall. I don't agree with your statement that a player's talent is going to stand out regardless of who he plays with and the situations he plays in.
Lo and behold, the last couple of games, Frost is given more ice time and playing with more speed and skill, and he looks like a different player. Did he just develop more as a player all of a sudden? Players, especially young players need to be put in a position to succeed. That's how other teams develop players and why the Flyers are dismal failures at it.

Um no Laughton will not have his A removed and odd that you chose now to rip Risto since last nights game was a good one for him and he is actually playing better of late. He was bad earlier when coming back from injury, but has been ok since.. tough to blame him for a bad pk when he does not play there or the team not score goals..

See tippets numbers since returning compared to gs. He’s on pace and there is a 1st coming w it. Is that too positive?

Clearly their best player right now.

Simple question for you. Do you think the head coach is trying to win every game they play?

Carter Hart has been too inconsistent to tag him a franchise goalie at this time. Then again you know the good when you see it.
-furio16

That is a really good question and one I thought of myself. In the Montreal game for example, when the Tippet line is playing so well, according to Torts in the post game, why not put them on the ice in the last minute, give Tippet a chance for the hat-trick to ice the game? Many coaches would have done this, but not Torts in that instance and I found it puzzling. I also found it odd that Torts in his same post game stated he wouldn't have thought that Cates would be out there in that situation. Ok, then why was he? Especially given how well Tippet has been playing on both ends of the ice?

I believe Hart can back bone a really good team to a championship. We all know as Flyers' fans how hard it is to find a really good goalie to build your team around, well IMO the Flyers have that goalie, they just need to build a really good team around him.

They're giving up fewer chances now than in October. Listen to the way Torts talks about all the "good minutes" the team is playing now. He often cites the improvement in scoring chance prevention for November. Their team game is still far from perfect, but it's gotten better. Still prone to break downs, but the sheer volume of high danger crap slung Hart's way has been reduced dramatically.

Hart is also not playing as well as he was in October. Torts was asked if Hart's decline is mostly due to bounces and luck and Torts said -- point blank -- that Hart also hasn't been at the level he was early on.

Just take some of the goals last night for instance. Point shots like Xhekaj's on that first goal weren't bouncing off Hart for stray rebounds in October. Pucks were sticking to him and he was pouncing on rebounds right away before. Now you see more garbage being left in front.

I don't think either of the Caufield goals would have beaten Hart in October either. The first punched thru between his arm and body and the GTG he just looked fatigued going post to post.

I don't think Hart is playing badly, btw. He's just not the brick wall he was in Oct.

- Tomahawk

In October, Hart gave up what many consider to be at least 1 bad goal early in games, then locked it down. I haven't seen him give up bad goals in the past 2 weeks. Yes, Hart has not faced as many shots but I believe that shots he has faced have been difficult ones. No goalie can keep up a .950 save percentage and that is what Hart had in October. Everyone knew he would fall back to Earth eventually and he has. I believe if a goalie can produce a .920 save percentage overall that is all a team can ask for. That shot from Caufield to tie the game for example had eyes, I actually thought Hart had that covered coming across there.

Frost was a late 1st rd pick. The issue can be discussed is should the B Schenn even happened. IIRC, this organization felt Schenn could not play center. So an interesting hypothetical. Without the trade, no Farabee also. However, if Schenn stays at center, then probably no Hayes signing. My basic point is since drafting Coots, this organixation has zero depth thru the draft at center. Even if Gauthier pans out, more center depth is needed.
- Trox88

I don't believe Gauthier will be an NHL center, you can already see at BC is better suited at wing. The Flyers need a top end center and this is the draft to get him!

I made the point in my initial post. The premise that the organization has not given him a chance is nonsense. Or put him in a decent position to do so. I questioned this year’s lineup regarding him but now he’s getting his chance, again…
- ClaudeFather

Just look at the Montreal game and the play of the Tippet line. Who was the best player on the ice? It was Tippet. Who was the 2nd most noticeable player on the ice? It was Farabee. Who was the player that couldn't convert on a clean break-away from an outstanding Tippet pass and went 1/10 on faceoffs and was the least noticeable on the ice? Clearly it was Frost. Even Torts said it post-game. He first said the line played well and he was looking for that line all night (except apparently when the team needed them the most with 1 minute left), then he said "Some players on that line are showing confidence". Hmm .. why "Some players"? Why not "that line is showing increased confidence"? To me I think this was subtle shot at Frost.

It is hilarious that Caufield has 66 NHL points already while York can't beat out Seeler.
- PLindbergh31

Right now you are basking in the sunlight. Let's see how it goes next year when York is back in the NHL. Defenseman take longer to develop than forwards, unless they are named Makar, and Caufield would be nothing with Susuki!

I'm amazed everyday with the statements made on hockeybuzz. Tortorella apparently calls out Frost in the post game presser. Yet he played Frost at 5 on 5 more than any other forward on the team during the actual game.

Frost has played pretty well the last two games. Hopefully he continues to play with good linemates and gets ice time.
