Not wanting to pay him over 5mill was a big thing here. But Adams could have avoided that the year before if he would of signed him to a multi-year then. - Buff36
Signing your starter to a 1 year 2.6m contract that takes him straight to UFA, with no one ready to play in your system, is gross incompetence. That's how you end up with an Anderson/Dell duo and have Houser playing NHL games.
Same goes for Sam and Montour. One of my favorite topics to rant on!

Rochester is going through a rash of injuries, think getting Jost was to help there a bit. - Buff36
Who will they send down? |

Probably Sheahan tomorrow. Little tougher when Okposo is back. I don't think they want to carry 8D, but they'd have to expose someone to waivers. Very awkward since Pilut deserves to play, but is UFA at the end of the year and may not be interested in extending. Curious to see what they really think of Jost. Could opt to try to send him down.

There's big differences....and his last deal was a clear signal that it won't be easy. - Lunaion
Last deal was different. More Potential based.
The next deal will be based on dahlin being a verified top 3 nhl point producing defenseman. Stepping directly into his prime.
His stats are gonna get him 11 or 12 million x 8 years. IMO
Dahlins a ppg guy. |

He must of thought about it, I'm of the belief he purposely took the team friendly deal. Management and coaching believes in him and that can go a long way with players. + I think he likes it here, as well as liking his teammates - DirtyDan
Tage moved around a lot as a kid. His dad was a professional hockey player. Left for team usa very young.
Definitely wanted to plant his feet in buffalo for a long time. Just had a baby, probably doesnt want the same moving constantly upbringing..... |

We'll see. With Makar and Fox at 9 and 9.5, it's a big jump.
I also don't assume 8 years as a given now.

Our media just blows. Not one question about a lack of team tougness. Not one. The best we got was "did you get too young too fast" from Paul Hamilton.
Garbage organization enabled by a lazy, incompetent media.
Don't worry, everyone, Kevy is "calm."
No "short term decisions that hurt us in the long run." |

Inflation. Dalhin will get 10 or 11 per. Book it. If the Sabres don't pony it up someone else will. Many someone elses. |

Usually it goes up as a % of the cap. Boss said 11-12, that feels a little high.

It may not be that high if the escrow is actually paid off by the end of this season, as Bettman said was possible.
I could see Dahlin getting 12% of an $88M cap. |

Wouldn't want to put one of those precious 6-7 Dman on waivers. |

Probably a bit high.
I agree with lacap, 10 -11 million.
I didn't realize makar / fox were 9/9.5 |

9:31 9 questions here's a synopsis
1. Tyson Jost
- "He checks all the boxes." (cheap, small, easy to play against)
2. Z and Okposo injuries, was the Jost signing related?
- "No, we don't make short term decisions."
I think both these question came from Lance L, though I am not sure. They were definitely from the same person.
Questions 3 - 6 from Mike Harrington
3. The last 28 games of last and the first 10 of this year is not a small sample size Did you think of doing something short term to stop this bleeding?
-blame injury
-blame youth
-blame timeline of injury return making any help a "short term decision which we don't make"
-"I'm calm right now."
4. Are you shocked you're 29th in the league?
-We're so close in some games
-these are learning pains
-"I'm calm and calm is contagious"
5. Circle back to Zemgus and kyle injuries (note this the 2nd question about this)
-we miss them so much
6. Callups have sucked so far. What were you looking for? Why not a young guy?
-We want to keep the young guys in Rochester
7. From Paul Hamilton "Did you get too young too fast?"
-That' such a great question....sustainable success comes through these situations, Tage/Dahlin, we're so young
8. From I don't know who. "Aren't Tage and Dahlin wonderful?"
- "Yes, they are."
9. From whomever asked 8 "Did Kyle skate today?" (making this the 3rd Z/Kyle question out of 9 total)
-Yes
Not asked by our crack media:
"Peyton Krebs hasn't scored in 30 games. What, specifically, do you see in him? Why as a 3rd or 4th liner?"
"Does your team lack toughness?"
"Does your coach tell your team not to finish checks?"
"Is the team listening to the coach?"
"Is the coach in trouble?"
"Should Rasmus Dahlin be your toughest player?"
"Our we on track in the 5-year plan?"
"When will goaltending become an organizational priority?"
Damn sure happy we got 1/3rd of the questions asked about ZTrain and Okposo. |

Evens out a lot with the 6 year term, think it only bought 1 UFA year.

Ullmark might win the Vezina this year. I gotta say, Linus looks like he's slimmed down considerably since his walrus days with the Sabres. |

Probably 5 or 6 of us that have been saying that for atleast 2yrs. It was a huge mistake by all Departments for Sabres in if they new how light this upcoming draft was on D that they didn't atleast use 1 high pick on a Defenseman this past draft. That is another position like Goalie that Adams really hasn't done anything. - Buff36
Pronmans ranking was for the 1st round only.
There could be suitable D in rounds 2 and 3...with 3 2nd rounders, KA and the boys may find a couple D prospects there.
The Question is, will you want to spend a top 10 on D again in this Draft? I think that is questionable. |
