And more hits leading to wins just isn’t a valid statement either
- jdfitz77

No one said they do. Literally not one person here said Hits equate to wins.

Being physical and playing the body help getting there though

LoL, I wasn’t watching the game to see for myself when you said he needed to shave. I thought you were talking about a beard, not a mustache

Not necessarily
Sometimes the team with more hits wins
Sometimes they lose

Hits don’t have any measurable correlation to winning though

- jdfitz77

That’s what I said, isn’t it? “...a high number of hits means jack.”
But hitting is a part of winning

For that individual play, sure
But in general, teams that hit more don’t always win more
There’s no correlation

This isn’t rocket science guys

- jdfitz77

You said Hits have nothing to do with wins, which is totally not true.

Idk what to tell ya?
People here keep acting like hits matter so much
Boss literally just posted “hits = wins”

It’s just not true though

It's not. I never liked stats. They always painted an incomplete picture. I always concentrated on how we matchup and what role I would have to play to come out on the other end with a "w". And sometimes it would have to be physical play with dirty goals. Being somewhat of a chameleon... I guess.. the glaring issue I see with the Sabres top 9 is an unwillingness to be....physical if necessary. And it was definitely necessary to lay Eichel out rather than letting him freely shoot the puck 200 ft down the ice for his hat trick.

Also, there would be times when a teams top line and or a couple players were exceedingly better than ours. Instead of using my speed to attack, I would use it to defend and smother the other teams top player in hope of taking him out of the game.

What line / offensive player has done that this year for the Sabres?

In this case, the stat is just confirming something we are all seeing.

Think this evaluation period has shown there are 5 or 6 players that don't have the heart to do what it takes.
Edit: And that number might be light.

Running out of room to put this F@cking Snow, Holy Sh!t. Gotta be 5ft piles already. Give Credit to the Plow drivers for being out there, but damn it always seems like they are watching for when you are just about done with the Driveway.

Haha. Here's life changing money and don't worry, I'll never ask you to do anything you don't want to do nor hold you accountable for not doing something you should have done.

Sabres are soft and extremely easy to play against. I don't know if analytics are influencing the coaching staff in a way of telling the players NOT to finish checks... or even check at all? I was at that tragedy of a Vegas game. Sabres pregame warm up..my god... players giggling, dancing with themselves and whatnot.. not one player caught my eye as someone who was mentally preparing oneself for battle.

Even during the game, friendly exchanges in the faceoff circles, giggling at the jumbotron as they're mentioned for whatever off ice reason. Then allowing Eichel to celebrate without consequence. Like Andrew Peter's said : "I would have punched that grin off his face."
Then what do they do.... follow it with a game of 5.....5 hits against a subsequent opponent....

If anyone here thinks hitting isn't part of the game obviously stops watching once the playoffs begin. This Disney on ice team full of players who think they all belong on the #1 line is out of hand. Granado is too far into the "friendzone" with them and needs to tell each one their role because the way it looks.. on offense at least..is too many 1st round picks who think their first line players.

Goaltending... it's been a mixture of not good enough and being hung out to dry.
Right now... having UPL come in is nothing more than a hail mary. This team needs grit and someone who knows how to backcheck. Time to package up a few of these kid softies for a man.

- JYD

I have been thinking the same thing watching this team play. yet, I'm not sure the Granato knows what position many of these guys are yet. Some are very obvious though.

Maybe Adams should consider reaching out to the GM's to see about what it would take to acquire 1 or 2 of these guys for a second pairing Right Defense: Jani Hakanpaa-Dallas, Josh Brown-Arizona, Connor Murphy-Chicago, Luke Schenn-Vancouver, Wil Borgen-Seattle, Nick Jensen-Washington

I agree
But I’m not the “dummy” who brought up “hits”

- jdfitz77

The thing is, dummy, you keep avoiding the simple fact 31 teams in the NHL significantly out hit Buffalo, not just out hit Buffalo. So, it's you and the Sabres v the entire rest of the NHL.

I think this is exactly what most people mean when they say the team needs more grit, and not just a knuckle dragging old school goon running amuck, as some always take the statement to mean.
- Ratsreign

Let's be clear, a knuckle dragging goon would be large upgrade over Krebs and at least 3 others. Anyone pretending otherwise needs to explain what Peyton Krebs brings to the lineup that is more important.

It's been this way for the entire playoff absence.

Some toughness could at the minimum, add some entertainment.
