100%. No goalie can fix our bad defense. Hasek. Miller. Lunquist. Price.

All the same results.

Way way way too many breakaways, odd man rushes, and easy tap in goals.

**cough cough** 89 thinks Comrie stinks

Our defense defensively has been horrendous

We are all offensive and no defense

No grit, skating party style of hockey. Unfortunately this culture has been around for 10 years. Gotta get a new coach to fix it and rid ourselves of several players or the future Is grim. If we end up a bottom 5 team, we’re farked. No one will buy in

Examples of part of what constitutes defensemen playing good defense.

The Lyubushkin - Pilut pair did well in the 3 or so games they were together.

Problem is they're best as a 3rd pair. Playing up in the lineup is asking for trouble, as we all have seen.

This same writer is advocating for a trading for Jakob Chychrun to stabilize the top 4 defense for seasons to come.

https://www.expectedbuffa...-in-buffalo-sabres-again/

Any of the below sound familiar...?

>>> The organizations’ fixation on forcing Henri Jokiharju and, to a lesser extent, Jacob Bryson into significant roles will continue to hurt their results.

>>> I’ll hear arguments for Bryson’s skillset value in a high-event Granato system predicated on the counter-rush. Jokiharju on the other hand is going on two-plus seasons of negative results. Though he’s been injured for a good chunk of the year so far, I haven’t seen anything to indicate that an improvement is on the horizon.

Thanks for posting, good stuff. Don't worry we have a some D depth coming!! Oh wait Sorry WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING. But we are good according to some.

Went from one extreme with Kreuger to the other extreme with Donnie.

It’s more entertaining and they are scoring more goals but at the end of the day they are still losing games.

Sure, Adams didn’t give Donnie a playoff roster, but there is definitely enough talent here to not finish bottom 5.

That’s coaching 100%

Anyone ever notice how it never works when we move Tuch to another line? He can't drive a line. He, like Jeff Skinner, is a passenger on the Tage Thompson express. I'm done pretending he's making a difference. I hope he's playing injured.

Edit: he does, occasionally, make a difference when he springs opposition players with beautiful no look break away drop passes. I think we're at 3 so far this year.

Hard to blame tuch and his 9 goals and 16 points in 18 games.

Pick just about anyone else

I wish some people on this board would pack their bags, and go join the Devils, Bruins, Knights, Panthers, or Canes boards.

I think Tage is the next captain of this team. So impressed with what he's doing this season, his confidence with the puck. It he keeps that physical element in his game like we saw last night, sky is the limit for this guy.

Obviously Dahlin is in the conversation for the C as well. Really a shame we've chosen to waste both of their career years.

- The_Inkwell

Could be tuch for captain.

Strange that when okposo went down, we only needed gurgs and dahlin to wear the "A"

Girgs goes down and they need to new "A's". Not 1

For everyone that thinks leadership doesn't matter, these last few games should be an indication.....

Veterans are needed.

Handing out the "A's" at the same time is a coaches copp out. Didnt want to choose between tuch and tage. 🤔

I know hes not at the top of the list. All those other guys get beat up everyday though. And none of them get to get carried by Tage Thompson every shift 5 on 5 and by Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson on the power play.

I bet Mitts and Olofsson would have just as much, if not more, production than Tuch and Skinner in the same spots.

Dahlin and Samuelsson are real NHL top 4 D
Power is an amazing talent, but he’s green on NHL Defending
Lyubushkin Is a serviceable bottom pair guy
That’s it. We are basically running with 50% AHL defensemen (Joker in this category) a Rookie, an offensive phenom, and a very average bottom 2 pairing guy.
Backing this all star crew of defenders are a 41 year old, a career backup, and a career AHL’er

This makes zero sense.

We have enough good young defenseman for the future.

Any trade would be future oriented.

Our top 3 defenseman, when healthy , should be playing almost 75-80 of the 120 minutes in the game. .

Gonna give up 1 of our 2 good forwards for a guy that's maybe our 4 th defenseman?

Is it? I think you and I could pick up a secondary assist or a goal riding shotgun to 26 and 72 all night.

8 losses in a row and we want to blow the team up. Yeah. That worked out SO WELL in 2014 and 2015.

Idiots.

Tuch should be 16th -18th on the complaining level.

Skimmer
Asplund
Olo
Krebs
Mitts
Fitz
Bryson
Pilut
Commie
Andy

No blame zone:
Dahlin
Tage
Tuch
Cozens
Power for his age
Samuelsson

Since we picked up yost. We brought in more grit. According to hockeybuzz we should now be winning the cup.

More grit = more wins

- Sabretooth9

Well, after watching 8 games where our crease/slot is populated by uncovered opponent players, few players rubbing out opponents along the boards on the forecheck and neutral zone, and even fewer players going to the paint...I'd say maybe if the boys committed to this style of play they may, just may have better success.

Jost 0.67 hits per game...yeeee haaa!!

How many teams have ever had (2) 1 overall defenseman playing together?

Add a guy we just extended for 7 more years......

We were just dead last in the nhl a year and 1/2 ago.

Teams would kill for this defensive group.

Depth isnt as much of an issue when you are only trying to fill positions 4-6. The 45 out of 120 minutes a game that's left over.

Olofsson is a one-trick pony.

A wise GM would recognize that and trade him at the moment his value is highest.

Reality thinks Comrie stinks. He's been waived by three separate teams in his career, and he could be waived today. And, no one would claim him.

I'll start with your math seeming off unless you don't think it matters who is paired with one of Dahlin or Power.

Overall, a top end team needs 4 quality defensemen in their top 4.

Three is not enough, especially when you factor in injuries.

Speaking of that, has Samuelsson missed more games then he has played so far as a Sabre? You don't see an issue there?

The lack of organizational depth on defense is a big problem.

Is this what you did, when you were the GM of a Cup winning team?
