It's horrible out in Hamburg and Orchard Park right now. Friends that live off of southwestern just lost power. This storm is no joke. Snow already up to my knees and no sign of stopping. Be safe everyone. |

Every single team in the league except Buffalo disagrees with you. But, I hear you've got a hell of an analytics department. |

Yeah, sure maybe in Buffalo, but the Southtownes is getting hammered. And the Stadium is out there. Buffalo is irrelevant in this. |

Sabres are soft and extremely easy to play against. I don't know if analytics are influencing the coaching staff in a way of telling the players NOT to finish checks... or even check at all? I was at that tragedy of a Vegas game. Sabres pregame warm up..my god... players giggling, dancing with themselves and whatnot.. not one player caught my eye as someone who was mentally preparing oneself for battle.
Even during the game, friendly exchanges in the faceoff circles, giggling at the jumbotron as they're mentioned for whatever off ice reason. Then allowing Eichel to celebrate without consequence. Like Andrew Peter's said : "I would have punched that grin off his face."
Then what do they do.... follow it with a game of 5.....5 hits against a subsequent opponent....
If anyone here thinks hitting isn't part of the game obviously stops watching once the playoffs begin. This Disney on ice team full of players who think they all belong on the #1 line is out of hand. Granado is too far into the "friendzone" with them and needs to tell each one their role because the way it looks.. on offense at least..is too many 1st round picks who think their first line players.
Goaltending... it's been a mixture of not good enough and being hung out to dry.
Right now... having UPL come in is nothing more than a hail mary. This team needs grit and someone who knows how to backcheck. Time to package up a few of these kid softies for a man. |

Tough guys that stink at hockey aren’t gonna be much help, if any - jdfitz77
My point is hitting is part of the game and if they do it try not sending the guy you hit into your own goalie. The bottom line is some players hit more than others based on what they contribute to the team. Dahlin should contribute with good offence and be able to leave the ruff stuff to others like Tuch.
I used Crouse as an example because he's tuff and can play the game. We had Wayne Simmons but let him walk so we could keep Okposo. We didn't want to spend money on Kadri but signed a goalie that will never play again.
Is this team soft and easy to play against? Any opposing players ever get the Buffalo Flu?
This team needs some toughness. For those who think otherwise just watch the top teams change their style as soon as game one of their playoff runs start. |

I think the point I was trying to point out is the one I explicitly made twice now. Every team in the NHL significantly outhits the Buffalo Sabres. Every team, dummy. Every team. - lacaprup

I would think a more general "Snowvember" board game would be able to encompass all of the nightmarish November LES storms we've gotten this century. |

This is becoming a deadhorse topic. I wish the NHL would change this stat (hits) because it does not depict team defense or grit. You want to be tough to play against. That does not necessary mean high hits. Forechecking and backchecking are much more important. Taking away time and space is much more important. 2nd and 3rd effort when you turn a puck over is much more important.
These are the areas we lack in. |

Not a chance. I live near the stadium and this is the worst I've seen since moving down here a few years ago. Not even close to being done either. |

Amen. I can think of 3 bags I’ll help pack to get some grit and tenacity in return.
Agree with the Donny meatballs statement. I’ve been saying for years we need a mean, nasty coach who will whip the culture into shape here |

Years ago, you could go on the NHL website and sort hits by team by home and away.
Then it disappeared - because the discrepancies between arenas were hilarious.
It’s not a reliable stat - too much open for interpretation by the 22 year old kid who is given $50/game to count them.
I hope you guys are staying safe. |

I think this is exactly what most people mean when they say the team needs more grit, and not just a knuckle dragging old school goon running amuck, as some always take the statement to mean. |
