I understand but does that mean the kid GM has told Lafferty to give the puck away at center ice? Has he told Murphy to try and go 82 games without an open ice hit? Has he told Richardson to not try any coaching to make lemonade from these lemons? - stevefrmglencoe
Open ice hits aren't really a thing in the NHL. The game is too fast and even connecting puts a player out of position which is rather counter productive.
They're actually playing pretty well. The effort is there and for the most part they are attempting to make the correct play - there just isn't enough talent to execute. |

So it took 16 games, longer than I thought. Some say they are on board with the tank, until the team plays to their potential (competitive with the other bottom teams in the league but no match for the top). Then the knives come out why the Hawks are not Stanley Cup contenders right now. |

Isn't he basically building the computer program?

Rich I hope you are right but he was in the running for the GM job till the end and the interviews this summer on podcasts made it seem he was going to have a bigger role. On the Hawks website he is front and center on Hockey Management.

In his defense, Colliton was 5 games under .500 over 205 NHL games. He coached an extremely aggresive offensive style. Can you describe Richardson's style? Send Averageasiou on a breakaway? Poke check in front of the net?
Am I the only one here who thinks the Hawks have become Amatuer Hour in management, coaching, on the ice and in the broadcast booth? - stevefrmglencoe

There still is Kane and Toews until traded. Domi and Athanaseu could definitely be third liners for the Sabres right now. - LAHawk
Something is off with Domi and AA. Multiple trades to lower standing teams. Not sure they are the best fit with a rebuilding team.
I did notice when I watched practice a couple of weeks ago Domi was the most vocal and evergetic guy there.
You may be right.
As for Kane and Toews, I worship the ice they skate on but I fear it is over.

So far this season, Kane would not bring one first nor a high level prospect. - rpeters01
Doesn't have the puck on his blade enough and too much chasing around. Much easier for teams to isolate him when the guys on the line can't make them pay.
You put him with players who can win the puck for him and someone who can finish and there is a prompt turn around.
He plays half a season with McDavid and McDavid is the first player in 30 years to break 150. |

Not expecting Contender at this point but I would feel better if there was a Management team with rebuidling experience and a Coach who was coaching as if his life depended on it.

Yes. If you're familiar with the consulting term "digital" that pretty much sounds like what they are doing.
Consolidating player evaluations, metrics and everything else into one system so that the scouting \ evaluation department has a platform to consolidate player reviews and important metrics and the decision makers have a space where they can review the consolidated information.
The goal would be a more efficient way to leverage the eye test + statistics to remove bias and prevent goofy poop like people falling in love with one player or another.
I believe Greenburg built out most of the technology stuff for the Cubs and worked directly under Theo for that. Not all of it I'm sure translates but there is certainly a lot of potential value there, especially with all of the knuckle draggers that are still prevalent in the NHL. |

Domi and AA are on one year contracts. They will fetch something at the deadline, if that's what KD had in mind. The big challenge for KD could be staying above the salary floor after the deadline, if Toews and Kane are also headed out. |

C. Jones $5x5 extension will fix that. |

they have 3 retention spots 2 will for sure be used on kane and teows and they could also retain on 1 of Domi or AA to increase there value. or they could help another team by doing a double retention and there are probably a few teams that are going to have to dump a player once some players come off LTIR
I have no idea how they are going to get to the floor next year. |

The only thing keeping Mitchell out of Indy is S. Jones. |

Capfriendly has them at $40M next year with 11 players signed. Floor will be around 62M. Sign a couple of Domi types for 3M, take on a bad contract or two for 6-8M and fill out the roster with your 1M guys.

Vlasic looks like a solid 3rd pair guy. Korchinski was impressive but best to go slowly with him. Mitchell looks too small for defensive role and too slow for an Adam Fox role. - stevefrmglencoe
Disagree on Vlassic, from what little I have seen I think he develops into a solid player. Agree on Mitchell from the little I've seen of him. No clue on the rookie, but I have an open mind.

Half of them have hands that just atrocious. Might be time for me to start listening to Wideman and not watch. Last 2 games have been fugly. At least I can accomplish something while listening and not get pissed off.

They're both on 1 year deals. It's not like the Hawks are building around them. They are both as good as gone by the TDL or end of season. |

Maybe this has been answered before, but how will the Hawks reach the floor next year with Kane and Toews off the books? Sign a bunch of overpriced vets or take contracts off hands? Seriously that's a lot of cap space. |

One of the reasons S. Jones will not be traded.
Depends on what Florida would give the Hawks to take on Bobrovsky's contract. |
