Studies have shown FOs have very little to do with possession numbers as they are measured.
- Elbows15

You can add one more data point to that study, your 2022 Chicago Blackhawks, at least through the first fifteen games.

Have a ticket to Kelowna at Seattle next Wednesday and there are just too many prospects in this one game to watch them all closely. Should be interesting.

Seattle has Korchinski and Allan and Kelowna has C. Dach who are already drafted

Kelowna has two 2023 eligibles:
Andew Cristall, LW (Wiz rank is #17)
Caden Price, LD (Wiz #22)

Seattle has 2023 eligibles:
Scott Ratzlaff, G (Wiz #68)
Nico Myatovic, LW (Wiz #87)
Gracyn Sawchyn, C (Wiz #134)

I can sympathize. Following the USHL for 15-16 yrs seeing the NTDP live presents the same problem. Some yrs they have 4-5-6 1st rounders and practically the whole roster gets drafted. ... Impossible to take it all in but a nice problem to have.

Still look forward to your observations of the game/prospects.

This team will be the poster child for the importance of FOs when it is all said and done.

Tell me when you win them. Not how many. Bolland never had good FO numbers but in the last 5 minutes of a game it sure seemed like he was money.

What’s the matter, don’t like the -5? there’s still about fifteen more minutes for him to do more damage.

Once Mitchell and Vlasic are here to stay, someone sits. I prefer Roos keeps on platoon basis since he may need to play here and not AHL Regula should play AHL. Galvas is next recall after Mitchell and Vlasic. And I rather see Galvas than c Jones.

C Jones can sit. Either Murphy or McCabe is traded

Good point here. Ideally you want to stagger your prospects by draft yrs for cap reasons and available roster spots but if I had to guess Davidson will take the best value/deal whether that be young players/prospects or draft picks.

One thing we have no clue on is how Davidson values goalies in terms of what kind of resources he'll use to acquire them. Is he a guy who says no to using high draft picks on a goalie or is he one who feels you use a later rd pick every yr hoping volume and good scouting/evaluation/development will unearth a starting NHL goalie?

With the way 23 yr old Soderblom is playing they may feel they have a 6-7 yr starter with Commesso in the pipeline and are hesitant to use resources to add to the stable.

A reason I mention this is with a minimum of 2 1st rd picks if they'd draft big goalie Hrabal using a 1st rd pick this yr. I'm a huge fan of this 6ft 6in kid and realizing goalies can be a crap shoot this technical yet athletic, excellent skating kid is as close to a can't miss as a 17 yr old as you'll see. https://www.eliteprospect...yer/619024/michael-hrabal

- Mr Ricochet

Oh boy don't know much about this kid but I like him already. See they have him ranked 31st on tankathon. I am not one to mind taking a goalie in the 1st especially later in the 1st. Thanks for the info will have to keep a Eye on him .

I know Regula struggled some so far this year in limited action. Like to see them try him on the PP in front of the net , they did that with him in Jr with London had some good results. Good time to try anything.

When I saw the final score, I assumed that C. Jones was - 5. I checked the box score and what do you know? You would think that having that clown on the ice for close to 20 minutes a night would ruin team morale, but I guess he's just there to remind everyone what this season is all about..

Need to update this. He has a 4 point game today. 2G and 2A. Kinda strange they play afternoon games in the A.

Might as well call up Mitchell. Regula looked shaky tonight, he can be sent down, or better yet waive C. Jones.

Thanks for the column.

Faceoff stats are very subjective.

Also some faceoffs are more valuable than others. For instance, there was a sequence during Monday's game when Carolina had a PP and won 3 straight draws back to their point.

Not sure if there are stats available showing Toews's faceoff wins own zone, neutral zone, o zone, pp, pk, etc.

Weird how the Hawks are winning so many draws while losing shots against.

Agree on all this Boiler.

Wow C. Jones looked bad.

The team was treading water and even winning with S. Jones and T. Johnson playing. The depth is so poor that without those two they are playing like we expected them to play.

The pain is here but embrace the tank. If they continue to lose like this, I can't see them getting anything worse than the 6th pick. 3-4 drafts with multiple first rounders is great for development as something has to stick.

This team is on pace for 200 goals.
Even in the Arkihpov, Holqvist, Hamilton and Smolinkski 2006 days they did not look as dead and overmatched as they did Monday night.
Next 10 games will go long way to telling us if this 1st time coach is as over his head as the 1st time GM.
I hope the GM told Richardson to move Kurashev to the first line to showcase him for a
Hagel type trade as opposed to Richardson thinking Kurashev deserved the spot.
It is obvious there is nobody on this roster to drag the Hawks into the game with a hard hit or fight so I am hoping the coach can.

Hop was Arvid he let in 5 goals but 1 was at terrible block by regula. get out of the way, our square your body and block the shot and keep it in front of you. He gave the guy a perfect backboard to bounce it off of. outside of AS having a good game but still losing I want all our UFA's to get points Kane, Domi, AA, Jukaira, teows had a good game at the DOT and Tinnordi and Johnson have been OK really. those guys will be the easiest and make the most sense to move.

after or 4-2 start we have 2-8 so we are coming bac to earth. this team is AVG def and challenged OFF. would really like to end up in the bottom 3. I like 3 players in the next draft and not sure how I feel about the russian who is signed for at least 2 more years.

In the same vein as the drafted prospects reaching that NHL threshhold, I have to wonder how the writers assigned to cover the Blackhawks will find it difficult to keep an even keel as this rebuild is reaching 2030.

Only so many positives can be shaken out of the future story trees.

In spite the fact the overwhelming fan base feels that this coaching staff has implemented personal adds, and decisions in tactics and strategies that have lead (along with over their head goaltending) that have lead to the current outstanding place in standings, I really see the team starting to become a step behind in pace, the offense, and the stick work of most of the teams in the league and the players will start to add intensity as the year to qualify for the playoffs continues.

I like the team, almost every member.

I just don't see the sustainability of the group long term.

As far as the possibility of BOTH Toews AND Kane going to Colorad, well, the mathematics simply doesn't fit.
Now Jonathan Toews, sure.

And it is noted that the Buffalo Sabres have the MOST Cap space to deal, and if they are on the outside looking in, do they sacrifice their first rounder TO add Kane with teh possibility the may not be a contender right now even with him?

Kane's destination will probably be his to determine once he is told who is sniffing around.
I just wonder how Rangers or Oilers can make the $ work.

- wiz1901

The oilers will have LTIR space and if they come off Barrie (who is a third pairing PP specialist at this point) or Yamamoto who hasn't really done much it probably works.

Kane and a 2024 third for 2 firsts (23, 24) a 23 second and a 2025 4th that turns into a first if they make it to the finals. lol. Though I think that is a bit unrealistic. 2 firsts probably gets it done and maybe some swap for 3rds and 4ths or whatever. It would be impossible to get real value back and I'd see it playing out similar to the Giroux deal more than anything else though instead of a top prospect the Hawks just get an additional first.

Connor Murphy for Barrie a second and a third coming back wouldn't be bad. Maybe two seconds if Chicago retains some salary or a first if they retain the max. Though Jack Johnson probably makes more sense even though the Oilers aren't bad on the left side. Maybe Kulak can flip over.

Either would be an upgrade over Barrie at least defensively.

And if we want to play the when will the Hawks not suck game. Well assuming they draft pretty good and get either Fantilli or Bedard - either of them will probably be in the NHL next year. K2 is probably in the NHL next year.

Assuming Nazar recovers and does well in college (I'm thinking he spends two years there unless he just burns down the NCAA next year) Were looking at him being a NHL player in 2025.

They probably have another pick in 2024 that will be top ten so we'll assume 3 years for them.

If you look at the devils as an example Hischier was drafted in 2017 and Hughes in 2019 so really 5 years to really not suck. The Avs same with Landeskog it took 6 years after he was drafted to be a playoff team and have any consideration for being a cup contender so if this year was year one.

2027 maybe they're in the mix. Certainly before 2030 unless they draft very very poorly or some goofy poop happens this year where they pick 6th instead of 1 or 2.

I'd say by 2025 you should start to see the ship turn and they should be in the playoffs in 2027. If they could get a FA like Matthews or zee German to sign in 24 or 25 then obviously that helps things.

Ummm you do understand the team is deliberately tanking and bereft of talent on purpose right?
