VHG, any thoughts on this?

I've heard lots of stories about Snyder & Goodell over the years. I try to stay out of the league politics and just try to enjoy the games.

Who are you randoming too and about what?

It looks like some of the guys were commenting on Klimovich not having great hockey sense and maybe not being on a path to the NHL.

My fear is that since the rest of the division is also spinning their wheels, they will chase it because "We are only --- out of a playoff spot, just got to get to the dance".
- carsonagenic

Same as last season "we aren't as bad as a record shows". Admittedly, I don't think they are either but the issues that have persisted with the team for years now, aren't going away. I don't know if I would say the issues getting worse because not sure they really can but they aren't getting any better

He definitely got paid but did he deserve that level of pay? Especially when you are a one-dimensional player. I don’t remember ever seeing another Canuck player so good at scoring goals but yet so defensively unaware.
- bloatedmosquito

Drai makes 8.5 folks sure laughed at that contract then. Sure different players but...

Drai has defensive issues too but has gotten better. Miller seems to be headed in a different direction lol

Pick 4 today looks good:

Thoughts?

Yeah, that was a bit insensitive but Jesus this team is bad.

Once again I was thinking about how the Canuck can’t help but self-implode. They are their own worst enemy. That Miller contract is one of the worst this franchise has ever handed out. It’s right up there with Eriksson, Sundin, Luongo, and Messier.

- bloatedmosquito

Sundin ended up being one year (less actually because he didn’t start the season) for money that fit well within the salary cap. Sundin’s contract was MacKinnon bridge esque compared to Miller’s deal.

Ok.

I didn't love the pick that high. I thought they could have traded down at least 10 spots, still got him and got something else.

He has tools though. That's the frustrating part of a lot of Benning's picks for me. A lot have tools to play in the NHL. It's rounding out the game to be an everyday NHL'er.

“There's feedback and I expect a response to feedback. That's a part of what we're doing here. We're wanting [players] to get to the next level. And it's up to us to help.”

-Abby Coach Jeremy Colliton on his relationship with Danila Klimovich

Klim is still 19 till January but it's the response part. His response was to get himself benched after being taken off special teams.

Virtanen, had tools to be a bottom 6 but could he come to camp in shape.

Woo, he can skate, he can hit, he has good defence but can he assert himself shift by shift on the game. No, he has been a huge passenger.

You’re on drugs, Miller is like a clone of Ryan O’Reilly. Big, mean, tough to play against, 200’ game, great leader, has his teammates back.

- LordHumungous

I'm not sure it is Horvat? If it was it wouldn't be an easy deal for either team to pull off. I hope he continues scoring and holds the teams feet to the fire. If he does end up getting traded it will be for a very good return.

I get that player development isn’t linear, but taking an 18 year old kid from another country without the support of family and plopping him in an environment where he literally has no peers. It’s not a recipe for success. If he had played in the CHL he would at least have had other kids his age to help him aclimate to North American life and hockey.

I’m not against the pick, I don’t follow prospects, at all. But when a kid comes out of nowhere because of one good game in a high profile tournament…

Horvat would be an excellent addition to CAR for their 2LC but not sure what they would give up. Probably a bunch of 975K players is all we really need moving forward. Something in the Brendan Gaunce style would be good lol.

I doubt management is panicking and even if Horvat goes it would be closer to TDL if there is a sell-off.

It shouldn't take long to see the tools a player has.

The knock is sort of the same as that tournament though, can score but he doesn't make use of his teammates and tries to do everything himself. Not going to happen at higher levels unless your name is McJesus.

Bold sounds like a lot of Canuck players though. Resonating through the entire organization from Benning trying to do everything, to the players now. Maybe a philosophy change came last year in the management area but that might take time to implement different values.

Garland-Hogs-3rd would be perfect for Zaitsev. But alas Pearson is out so Garland and Hogs are staying.
