that is impossible that no one would want a elite RD that only makes 4.5M for FREE!!!! - Mithos
How about a guy making 2.5M as his bonus was paid, plus he is probably owed just over 2M for the rest of the year.

Here is what I was told from someone inside the org.
Ottawa has just under 4M in cap space. If they want to get a top 4 D or another center for the rest of the year depending on Norris and his recovery, sending Zaitsev to Belleville(once he clears waivers) is the only way he can do both or either, depending on what the player's salary is. He was very calculated putting him on waivers so he can clear the cap space to make proper acquisitions.
To be able to do both, by sending Zaitsev to Belleville, or maybe he gets loaned to the KHL is another possibility, gives Ottawa 8.5M in cap space to do what he needs to do for this team. Plus he knows he cant keep waiting.
This team is now 9 points out of the final wild card playoff spot. - Kevin Francis
I think they need to take a deep breath and relax. They have been playing really well and should have more points than they do now if not for those malicious hockey gods. Just bad luck. Last year Smith was forced to play Stutzle at center because of injuries and that will prove to be very fortuitous for the team going forward in the years to come. This year he's forced to play JBD and that's great.
No trading for guys like Shattenkirk! Forget about a playoff spot this year. This team is playing great but they're not ready for the big splash yet. Wait for Zub and sign him. Bring up Thomson at some point. Keep that number one pick for 2023 because even if you don't win the lottery you'll get a good prospect.
Tonight give NJ a taste of what's to come and if the hockey gods take a friggin break this Sens team will beat them. I'm calling 5-2 Sens. |

I hope they pull out a win tonight. But our NHL coach who says Zaitsev is quite the defenseman, then the entire NHL passes on Zaitsev for free lol. I can't trust this coach to do anything right or lead this team.
The Zub stuff seems odd that no deal is done yet, when the team has full access to negotiate with him. The longer it goes with Dorion, from past players exp. that you hear after they leave the team, they say in their final year of their deal how Dorion was silent with the agent and the player knew the writing was on wall. Now his worth is through the roof as the D is a bigger mess without him.

DeBrincat is not worth anywhere near 9 million but he's not terrible and he's been snakebit bigtime. This would be a really good time for him to get a couple. Like I said 5-2 Sens with a dominating performance and I don't want to hear any crap about Chabot if he makes a mistake. |

I don't care for Smith as an NHL coach but the team has played well for him and really made an effort. I am not privy to how the players feel about him and leave it to people who are more well informed to comment. Right now it doesn't matter. He's the coach tonight. Go Sens Go. 5-2 Sens. |

He's getting his chance, but no way I would pay him 9M long term. Chabot is being played far too much, 29 min. the other night, it has to stop. Quality over quantity. |

once again OTT 4th line vs NJD 1st line or was that 2nd line? |

Definitely the 4th line caught out against their 2nd line......unreal! Coaching, coaching and coaching......
As I tweeted already.
No SOG for the first PP by Ottawa. How many times will Brannstrom shoot the puck into the feet of the opposition tonight? Awful!
Next tweet.
All 5 Sens players below the hash mark and not a single NJ player in that area, boom a Devils goal....unreal!

Seattle claimed Hellberg - Kevin Francis
Its painfully obvious why Zaitsev was waived, but why Hellberg? Have to think a deal is slowly lining up. |

according to RDS line up chart Hishers line is NJD 1st line so OTT 4th vs NJD 1st = NJD goal |

They want to free up as many dollars as possible to make a few deals I am told! They didn't want an extra 1M on the books for a third goalie.

any move other than firing smith will be a futile attempt |

so far Giroux most definitely worth his 6.5M contract |

He's been dynamite. The last few games, being there live, he coaches the players on the ice more than DJ. He is so engaged and active, it's awesome to see.

Less Chabot and Branstrom for offensive d-men. Give me Sanderson and Hamonic.
In all seriousness though, Sanderson is slowly starting to make an argument to get 1st unit power play time over Chabot. Way more composed with the puck and positioning. |

A+ signing so far. Reminds me a bit of Alfie's veteran presence at times on the ice. |

That 2nd goal was weak. Last year Forsberg stole a few games, they need Talbot or Forsberg to steal a game here soon!
