He can just follow Virtanen, Danton and Voynov to Europe where they still make millions playing hockey despite being pieces of poop. |

He should have an opportunity to fix his life and try to make a life in his chosen career.

What caused him to be this so called "piece of poop?"

So a court ordered part of his punishment is not satisfactory in this society so he can move on with his life? What is the purpose of it then? There is nothing wrong with having someone help him in forming an apology. If the meaning of it comes from him.
It seems to me that what is happening in this situation is going to ensure that Miller remains stuck. As reprehensible and awful as what he did is. we need to remember that he was a kid. What in his environment of upbringing factored into him doing that to another human being? There are arguments being made that he hasn't been rehabilitated. If he hasn't had counseling or therapy, who is to blame for that? Seems there is failure all around. - MJL
Again he has moved on with his life every day. This is a question of getting an NHL contract and representing the values at hockey’s highest level.
Bold—For sure. I hope that good can still come from this situation especially after it happened with Arizona at the draft a few years ago as well and nothing changed. Hopefully the conversations result in helping him actually takes place now.

Are there any other current NHL players who made some serious mistakes in their lives as a kid before becoming an NHL player? How about in any other pro sport? |

Love how the Bruins are so bad at PR that they've somehow managed to piss EVERYBODY off in this process -- right, left, center, hockey fans, non-hockey fans, like literally everybody. - Tomahawk
Haha, worst case scenario from every angle. How dumb can you be when your team is 10-2 you go and do something like this? Everything is going right, then you willing open yourself up to a firestorm |

Values at hockey's highest levels? LOL. He was a kid. If he met all the requirements placed on him by the juvenile court and has not committed any other unknown crimes, then I think he should get the opportunity that his level of play earns.
You didn't address the issue of what in his environment growing up factored into his actions. Kids aren't born evil. |

Does the kid just never get a chance to play? Obviously what he did was really bad but he was a kid. How many people do you know that were bad kids or did something really dumb but now are decent people? |

they have accepted murderers, rapist, and others in this privileged sport. precedent already set. - hello it's me 2050
So the league can’t change and do better as they have said they are trying to do. Odd take for someone saying they want to move forward from mistakes.

Happens all the time. Let's keep this kid down and ensure that he is a failure in life. That's better.

lol, even their own fans and players are enraged.
Also one of the funnier aspects is that Neely and Sweeney were in the room when Tyler Seguin was given the heave ho for not showing enough character and maturity lol.

Nor do the Bruins. That is a huge issue.
The cancel brigade will be out in full force. Do the Bruins or the NHL want to deal with that? Hell no they don't. - MBFlyerfan
The right thing to do is to cancel the cancel brigade by simply ignoring them. It's actually a very tiny minority of sanctimonious scumbags but they have a loud voice because of social media. If the Bruins just simply stuck by their decision and said "we know his past but are giving him a second chance" all of this crap would blow over in a week or less, or at least until the next opportunity for the cancel mob pops up. Then they'll completely forget about this one. They're like vultures moving from one road kill to the next. |

Flyers should sign the kid. I'd be all for giving him a second chance and an opportunity to put his past behind him. But then again, we're dealing with PC idiots at Comcast that take a Kate Smith statue down because of a song in 1937. |

Two that jump out to me are Josh Hader and Trea Turner in the MLB. Both made posts online as teenagers that were discovered containing slurs of all kinds. Turner is probably set to make upwards of $30 million per year this offseason and Hader just pitched in the NLCS. It almost feels like each sport picks and chooses who they want to discipline and when.
The NFL is rife with domestic abusers, but if you play a skill position it goes away. I remember that one punter (his name escapes me) getting kicked out of the league pretty quick.
In the NHL especially, I remember Patrick Kane having a lot of off the ice issues. Hell, how about Evander Kane last year. All that stuff quickly gets forgotten because of their skill level. But for a 4th round pick trying to get into the league and sign a contract, I guess it is pretty easy to make an example of that guy. |

There is a better way. The NHL instead of just coming out saying that he can't play in the NHL, should've come out and condemned what he did in the past and said that they were going to ensure that this kid receives counseling and rehabilitation as he plays in the AHL and any opportunity to play in the NHL in the future will be contingent upon the player completing the counseling to a satisfactory level. They had an opportunity to help this kid and they failed. |
