This direct quote from 18-year-old Miller about not apologizing says enough to say “no way” IMO:
“I was unable to reach out to them after the incident, but I think eventually I will definitely reach out and obviously say I’m sorry for all the inconvenience I caused when we were 14 with their family and the child.”

Here is the article:

The NY Post is barely a step above the National Enquirer. I haven’t seen anything about the victim testing positive for any of those things. As far as I know, you can’t get HIV from urine.

The victim had to be tested for Hepatitis, HIV, STD. I typed 'positive' by mistake.

The incident was caught on security camera and show Miller and a friend punching and kicking the disabled kid as well.

Thanks for the correction. Miller’s actions were horrible, but wouldn’t want people thinking the victim got HIV as a result.

If that Canada sexual assault case ever moves forward will those players be suspended from the league? Will it be a permanent banishment? To be banned from a league for something that happened at 14 years old seems a bit much.

That Johnny G signing look real horrible. So glad we didn’t do what most fans here wanted to do & back up the truck for another undersized forward
- Fopa21

Well one thing is certain, he wouldn’t have helped this squad enough to merit his signing. By December they will likely be out of it and best idea will be to shed players and salary if they can

Kind of puzzling. I guarantee you that there are scads of NHL players who did something wrong or immoral when they were a kid. Plenty of others who bullied someone. If I'm not mistaken, this happened when he was in the 8th grade. He was punished and paid a price. Don't we believe in second chances and rehabilitation in this country? I wouldn't be surprised if a lawsuit is filed.

There seems to be more to the story that has been overlooked. Why was the abuse allowed to continue for 7 years without any kind of intervention? The Coyotes knew of the incident so why did they draft him? The University of North Dakota gave him a scholarship and he even committed 2 years earlier while playing midget hockey. So the Coyotes and UND knew but wanted to give him a chance with no counseling or plan to assess his character. USA Hockey allowed him to play in 3 international tournaments. It was only a problem for those 3 organizations after the public uproar. They didn’t require him to show remorse. Hockey people didn’t give a crap until it got in the public domain and then they did their virtual signaling. This kid did some bad stuff but he wasn’t going to get any kind of redemption with the way hockey people botched this.

It’s all probably moot anyway. Is he good enough to play in the NHL? Scouts said that it was unnecessary for the Coyotes to take him in the 4th based on talent alone. He could have been taken later.. There is a lot of blame to go around.

He is on par with Matthews stat wise. But Blow Joe's in shortage of great centers. Not as bad as the flyers but....

The best thing for the player is to get out in front of it. I agree with everything you said. The issue was and still remains the fact he never publicly acknowledged and apologized, be that fair or not. If he never shows “publicly” a sense of remorse he never will have the chance to play. That’s today’s world. He can still come out ahead of it if he chooses.

Supposedly, his mom said boys will be boys. How out of touch is she to comment like that to such egregious behavior!? An apology would have helped. But even an apology has to be followed by action that shows rehabilitation and growth. Sometimes kids that age have trouble expressing emotions especially when guilt is at play. Hard to judge if he has sorrow or not. I agree with MJL about giving people chances. His problem may be that people around him haven’t required him to be accountable for his actions. The kid doesn’t seem to have good role models around him.

I never had the feeling Torts liked Risto that much. Not like Mac and others.
