Knowing this team, anything he said about culture went through one ear and right out the other

The players of today, and society in general, just aren’t the same. It’s very much a me, me, me culture out there…..everywhere. The Bruins are one of the last old-school cultures out there in the NHL today.

Seems a bit hyperbolic, I like to watch other teams play(especially when it's two good teams playing) and there's quite a few teams who have each other's backs.

Bruins are one. Oilers as well. Blues, Preds, Wild, etc. just off the top of my head.

It’s something you build over time, not from one speech. Hopefully it resonated with some of them though.

It's also not something you just suddenly develop without some major changes, we now know that just a coaching change or management change isn't enough. The core needs to be shaken up drastically. It can't happen right away but I'd hope management isn't obsessed with "winning" or afraid of "losing" a trade.

Because sticking with this core is a losing preposition anyway.

Pretty good speech Bieksa gave the locker room today.

Of course the game is blacked out for me, so I guess I won't get to see the ceremony till tomorrow

This is just my opinion, but, it’s something you build over time with young guys/players who grow up together in a dressing room. Which is why I despise the throw poop against the wall to see what sticks method Benning used. You can’t build a culture like that imho.

When Gillis took over the Canucks had a bunch of young drafted players and they all grew up together. Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Öhlund, Edler, Bieksa, Kesler, Hansen, Burrows*, Schneider, Raymond.

They filled in the blanks nicely and built something special.

Thanks Carol.

You mentioned the Ducks and the change of management, which reminded me that, at the time, the Ducks were ahead of the Canucks, I believe in a wildcard spot, changed management at about the same time as the Canucks, then the Ducks started selling off players, which is what I was hoping this new manage team was going to be doing.

It's also something you can't force. I think this core has proven over and over now it's simply not a good mix. There are good players, maybe a few even have the potential to be excellent, but they peaked in the bubble as a group. What was added, and more importantly (in my opinion) taken away, hasn't resulted in growth. A good culture doesn't disappear for 2+ years and then suddenly come back with the same core guys.

I don’t know if you’ve experienced a sunset or sunrise in the desert, but they’re stunningly beautiful. This reminds me of that.
