The Sabres have a young core of Leaders coming out. Girgensons isn't needed anymore in that aspect. Okposo is playing well the last 3 games, if they do extend him hopefully it's just in 1yr increments. Dahlin, Tuch, Tage, Cozens are all taking that responsibility.

Tuch is 26, Okposo is old, Tage has been around. They are not 20yr old kids. And what does Bear have anything with this. It was a 5th Boss, not a 1st at a position we are getting thin at.

one thing about this current group of sabres

they have a core identified for next man up if okposo and girgens either retire or are not offered a contract for 2023-24

you have tuch as a vet here for a few years
tage and sameulsson locked up long term
and cozens who will be locked up long term sooner rather than later


aside from skinner knee deep in the dog house with ralph, we really didn't have anyone locked up long term during the final eichel years

Today could not be more different than when Eichel was made captain. In those days we had a young leadership core (once Gio retired) that was passed over for the chosen one. There is no chosen one today. They all seem to be building this together.

Dropped netflix for a hulu Disney espn+ bundle because Netflix is blah and tomorrow night's game. Watching game 1 of the 1983 conference finals Oilers and Blackhawks. Keep getting ingame updates of the Sabres Bruins conference finals game. (For reference I was 3 when this happened.) First thing that jumps off the table about the game is Paul Coffee is an exponentially better skater than anyone else on the ice. He was a guranteed zone entry every time. Second, there are 3 Blackhawks I've seen so far without a helmet, one a Norris trophy winner. Third, I totally forgot Steve Larmer existed.

Strangely casey Mitts is the last guy off the ice in the pregame. Quinn and power hang around and shoot until time expires.

The 3 swedes run off the ice and jump check the Sabres athletic trainer (I think) who stands and watches the pregame skate from the bench. Unusual ritual for asplund, dahlin and olo. Dudes huge so it doesn't knock him over.
