is this 2005-2006 all over again? I think we are for real, but then again I have been fooled before.

This just seems a lot different.

Not at all, he's a good 4th liner, just not on this team next year. Hopefully the TDL

So, I want to do this poll now and again toward the end of the season to compare results.

Girgensons is a UFA at the end of this season. Do you THINK (not want, think) the #Sabres will extend him?

While I was definitely anticipating a more even split for this poll, I can finally reveal my take.

I think it’s a near certainty they retain him. As promised, I’ll re-post at years end, but I’d be stunned if they didn’t retain him.

Another 2x2.5 sounds about right.

All good stuff around here.

Secretly others enjoy girgensons play ( not quite as much as you and me)

The teasing really shows how good he's playing.

One thing I noticed, he takes some big hits lately

The one major thing I can tell is these guys truly love playing together. It is a very tight knit group, you can see it and almost feel it to a certain extent.

A lot of people were pointing that out. I think the difference with that team is that it was more of a veteran team. But other than that, a lot of similarities. They went from sucking to being damn good in the period of a few weeks.

Really think they need to take the next step, but are more likely to largely bring back the same team. Savoie in, someone out. UPL for Anderson. If we're lucky, flip a F for a D or upgrade the D some other way.

Following year is when a large crop of prospects should be ready.

Interesting, I think the Sabres have younger players that can do what he does.

I am not a huge Z fan, he never lived up to the hype when we drafted him, however he is wearing a letter for a reason, this is a young team, that play last night is the exact reason he is wearing a letter.

Does he drive me crazy when he loses an edge? All the time, does it drive me nuts when he turns it over in the o-zone? Yes, but the guy is a work horse especially when needed.

He comes back on a 2 year deal I think. He is the perfect 4th line type guy, none of the young kids are projected to be that guy, you want the kids playing a more scoring type role.

I did not back read (reid ?) enough to see if anyone mentioned it, .. but not only was the hustle by Girgensons just EPIC, .. but he literally had that PHYUCK Letang hanging on to his L arm, and ZG just put it into 4 wheel drive and dragged that mutt out of the scrum, .. LOVED THE FELLAS attitude when that warrior came back to the bench, .. there is no arguing that the attitude towards each other (you can tell it in every pre/post game interview they do, .. watch Tuch tonight when he's talking about Girgensons (what do you expect from a future captain though, .. maybe Dahlin too), ..

If you don't think that Granato is the coach for this team (much the way McDermott is w/ the Bills), .. then you don't have a clue, .. this guy has the pulse of HIS team, and he damn sure cares about what is being presented on the ice, and how it can get better every game. 7-3 to start is PRRRRRRRRRETTTY good, ..

P.S., .. Paul from Buffalo, thanks for that great call this morning about the pukes from Boston and their maggot fan base being in the arena on the 12th, .. I hope you are right in folks showing up that night, .. that game is THE measuring stick game to date for this club (not sure on the stats, but I know Boston has owned this team for the past several years), .. I'm optimistic that the arena will continue to grow, .. I KNOW IT WILL, .. people are skeptical (understood with the history and all), .. but if there are two examples of this being done in Buffalo before, then you only need to look to "99 or "05-06, .. the SCF team had good vibes the season before (to hell w/ the Capitals to this day, .. BONDRA !!!!!!), but there winning bred a rabid fan base, .. '05-06, no one saw that coming, but once the wagon started rolling (check out the logs on this site from back then, .. talk about good reeeeding), .. it was picking up people left and right, .. this town has, and always will shower their teams w/ fan support (when it's warranted - see Bills rebuild to where they are now), .. it was said last year, .. this group is a real life "Major League" squad, .. just keep winning boys, .. nothing like the power of a Buffalo crowd when the building is full !!!!!

Thanks for taking my call, .. I'll hang up and listen.

That's fine, but I think Rousek will be just as good at it, with a bit more offense.

You're probably right. Its also likely that given the shear number of promising lottery tickets that we have in juniors and overseas that we are going to have some real surprises when they come along. But nobody in that group will be here within the next 2 years. Its so fun to think about.

If Girgs were an UDFA, everyone would love him. Works hard and contributes with a very limited skill set. The kind of guy everyone roots for.

If my aunt had a Richard, she'd be my uncle.

I get it, but he wasn't. He was a first rounder. Guys picked right after Girgs:

Cody Ceci (prefer Girgs)
Thomas Wilson
Tomas Hertl
Teuvo Teravainen
Andrei Vasilevskiy

It lead us here today, but that right there is one of the reasons for the long suffrage. Hopefully we don't look back on Rosen, Savoie, Kulich, or Ostlund in the same light.

I have no problem with the player, think Girgs is good at what he does, when he stays on his feet. I just think the Sabres have the younger players to roll 4 lines with speed and forecheck at you with more scoring touch. Sabres don't need a conventional 4th, they have the talent to roll 4 fast lines.

I think Weissbach and Murray are going to be competing for the annual Jody Gage trophy for years to come. If I were them I would do whatever it takes to get into either the Chicago or Arizona organizations.

Not to mention he has been put through more crap than anyone should in their career. He was a warrior for years when the team really sucked.

Murray yeah, but Weissbach has gotten better every year he's been here. Might just turn into another sneaky 7th rnd pick.
