RJ night and the season finale against the Blackhawks (Kane) were the only games over 13,000 people

Border issues is still a big hold up for some it seems
Most of the Leaf and Hab games there are 50%-60% their fans

Agreed, completely. So for the people that are embarrassed, at what numbers and dates did it become embarrassing?
And again, the numbers are rising. Do people really think that fans in other cities would just flock back to to the team after 12 years of suck? That's absurd.
The signs are all there that it is coming. The organization was blown away by the attendance the prospect games and other events. Who am I to tell other people how they should spend their money? The organization knows what they have caused.

We'll have to hold this point until the end of the month. This team's road trip should have sold tickets but it looks like it has not. If I start seeing crowds by the end of the month it would be well received.
Great hockey fans find $35 (fees included) for this game. If you know the area well enough you can find a way to park for free too. And even then it's only 15 bucks to 20 bucksFor a very close spot.
This is an incredibly affordable game to go see some of the best players in the world today.
Great hockey fans don't miss it.

If the Sabres make it through November and the tough schedule that they have and they're still holding where they are in the standings then I would expect more fans to come.
Once the NFL season is over and they're still good, then I would expect attendance to rise as well.
The Bills being as good as they have been the last 3-4 years, the Sabres being as bad as they have been for over a decade, the border issues with Covid etc. and the completely mismanagement of the team up until last year has lost the fan base.

And they aren't. The difference is absolutely in the margins where the casual fans live. Lets not pretend that everyone that shows up when the barn is full is a great hockey fan.
Again, what was the date when it became embarrassing in your eyes? I don't think you need to look any further than this board to see the ways in which people were (and are) skeptical about the team. Real fans are showing up today, other fans want to be convinced.
Also, don't underestimate what 12 years of suck has caused. For many casual fans the team ceased to be a part of their lives. Kids grew up not caring about the team. That all doesn't just go away.

I would agree completely with this. I think even in the best years it seems that Thanksgiving weekend is what really kick-starts the season. If we are averaging 10 or 11k at that time then I will agree that it should be more.

I have not seen improvement in attendance from the last half of last season. It’s been very empty. If ticketmaster's map for tonight is correct it's going to be very empty again and that with 25% Pens fans.
I don't see the improvement. The team is doing its part.
Edit: if Sabre fans were as locked in as we're given credit for, the arena would be starting to fill up not struggling for 10k - lacaprup
Or, people remember two separate 10 game winning streaks early in seasons only to fizzle quickly thereafter.
Make the playoffs, then we'll talk. |

Sorry, didn't see the date question.
The average Sabre home game became embarrassing for me this season based upon number of empty seats. The only game I was embarrassed by last year was Edmonton, which was shameful.
The water is now long under the bridge. Who's left to be mad at? Yes, I wanted Cat this offseason, but all I ever demanded was a goalie. Ours is working out spectacularly thus far, and we're scoring goals aplenty without Cat.
The thing that pisses me off is we have the youngest team in the league. These type of players feed off the crowd like it has palpable energy. We're missing out, as a fanbase, on pushing with them over the hill. Shame.

Good post. The fans are just mad at the organization in general. It doesn't matter who the GM was, although I guess it does matter who was overseeing the whole disaster for the entirety.
I think we've rebounded remarkably well given just how bad it was not 2 years ago. I think the attendance will be a slowly, steady rise just as it has been for the team. It isn't like we went out and got Jack, Sam, ROR, Kane, and Reinhart in the offseason and there was a huge sudden buzz around the team. Everything is trending in the right direction.

I think they fixed most things that they were doing poorly (especially the previous host) but this is one thing that still drives me crazy. I know I am getting old but the noise level is obnoxious.

Two more notes on attendance:
- We are just coming out of a pandemic and I think that people got used to staying home. I am a homebody naturally so I don't count, but when I do go out I don't see nearly as many people at restaurants as I used to.
- We are still in the midst of a global inflation crisis (please don't turn this into a political post). People have less money. |
