The Canucks home opener wasn’t a nightmare, it actually happened.

Tried to make sense of a club whose president is already musing over a rebuild 6 games in.

I'm with Yorky. They should have traded Miller and Boeser and still should.

There's huge issues showing themselves within the leadership group of this team. That would be the first thing I'd deal with because it greatly effects the team culture they keep preaching about.

Miller would be my starting point. He's a tire fire out there. After being rewarded with his contract he should've been ready to hit the ground running. Not one of our worst players. That says a lot to me about his leadership qualities.

I'm not throwing jerseys or towels just yet like most of the whiners here. We have what it takes to score and win games that we know. Defense is where we start. With Dermott/Myers and Hughes healthy we are a different team. We are basically playing with an AHL defence right now so the results are not truly shocking.

Technically we've done that with Petey, Horvat, Boeser, Demko, Hughes and a few others. If Miller is that much of an issue do you see this club winning if he's gone? I think it goes quite a bit deeper...
- LordHumungous

You have to build from the net out, other than Hughes the Canucks drafting of defencemen is pretty much nonexistent.

Horvat is a great 2nd or 3rd line center on a good team, Boeser is a complimentary player, Hughes is magnificent at the offensive side of the game but ordinary defensively, which is fine, he doesn’t have to be everything, all the time.

Demko is struggling but he’s really good, only Pettersson and Demko are solid player core pieces imho. Hughes too if he had more help back there.

The whole thing is a mess from years of throwing poop against the wall to see what sticks, and I don’t see it changing any time soon from what Rutherford is saying.

Yup, time for new blood in Seattle. Geno's playing well, they are entertaining to watch (unlike the Canucks). I hope Denver tanks like f*ck, those high picks will come in handy next year. After that NE SB loss is when the players went screw this, the guys an entitled idiot.

It may be a different sport but if you have problem players on a team, it's managements job to fix the problem. Rutherford isn't helping himself standing pat.

- VanHockeyGuy

Seahawks are in prime position, through the draft, to build quickly next year!!

That I do agree with. Allvin is clearly too inexperienced as a full time GM as of yet. Time for some gunslinging and send a message to the fragile dressing room that no job is safe. Including Horvats.

When a team is in the position VAN is in all options should be on the table.

Agree but BPA is not the way to go and that's part of our issue. I've been saying draft for need the past 4-5 years and it sucks Joulevi didn't work out but I wish they would have stuck with that process. We could have had 4-5 RHD's right now in the system developing but no...BPA fucking blows.

I'm not worried about Demko he showed us last year what he's capable of. Just needs to get his head right and he may be battling and injury.

Rutherford just needs to step in and do a little shakeup for some help on D. If there is this 'dressing room angst' that folks are talking about fix it and move on.

This sh!t isn't that hard to figure out lol

It’s more than that. There’s no structure to their game. There’s not enough skill to possess the puck in the neutral zone or the offensive zone for any length of time. Pettersson is the only forward who seemingly can control the puck and make a play with it.

The Flyers have a crap lineup, but Tortorella demands you play a certain way, their compete level is high…and they’re winning games. Hart has been good to start the year but you can be a lot more competitive with a better structured team.

I haven't watched every game but there's two where they quit on the game nearing the end of the 3rd. That has nothing to do with D. That's a team that doesn't want to battle to the bitter end.

Maybe. But start with players that we can get by without. many teams would take chances on Garland/Pearson. And that gets major salary off the books so we can have options.

Like Rutherford said though, this isn’t a video game, if you don’t have a willing partner to trade you can’t build up the defence with wishful thinking. That’s why drafting in todays game is so vital. I mean, it always has been, but now even more so as trading seems to have almost gone by the wayside.

Miller. Has. Got. To. Go! He’s a cancer, he’s like Jeremy Roenick, a good player but a loudmouth know-it-all. He’s gotta go. Ottawa has a good collection of American kids, their rebuild is going well.

Look at the size and skill on Buffalos’ defence, all collected via the draft. Gotta build a core through the draft.

60 min hockey has been an issue with this club since 2012 when Kesler should have been traded.

Anyways...here's a masterpiece. Enjoy.

As we all know they didn’t draft enough D that worked out and that is typical for Canucks.

Ar this point this core can’t be fixed by the draft so either flush it or work on it.

5 x 4.5 mil extension for Myers. They announce it the day before the TDL.

Herein lies the problem, they're keeping both options open. There's no plan.

Sabers hardly had to work tonight to easily bury Canucks.

Two teams heading in opposite directions.

Yeah they still are evaluating I guess. Once you pull the pin you can’t put it back.

The structure comments seems they will fire the coach first which is easier to do then make trades. But still expecting one for shock effect.
