He is probably bringing litigation against his maker for using his cranium as a toilet bowl before being patched up. It breaches the contract for being "made in his image"

Speaking for myself, my breakfast:

whole grain muffns, well toasted, split in two.
On one: smoked salmon (Trader Joe's has great prices in such times) and 3 min poached egg (no hollandaise though)
On the other: smeared avocado, sliced tomato, dollop of pesto.
Generous salt and pepper over everything.

Indonesian coffee, hand ground, brewed strong.

And as I settle down to work: this masterpiece on the background

And you?

Lets play devils advocate. Flyers are winning while not playing good. What happens if they start to improve their team play, will the winning continue at a decent clip?
- hello it's me 2050

No, because they lack the overall talent to play much better.

Maybe, you don't though. In which case, I have to quote his majesty...

With regret, I cannot embrace this operatic disquisition of betrayal on a Sunday am when the Phillies are about to play for a berth in the World Series as in any way suitable for the moment. Moreover, this entire gavot seems a clumsy canard when you are legitimately called on to the carpet for violating your own debate precepts. Selecting a somewhat rarified genre of opera won’t distract the careful reader from your unwillingness to hold yourself to the same standards that you set for others. I hope this does not disrupt your enjoyment of this piece.

Good god man. They are 1 win away from the world series. I am not a MLB fan but even I am on the bandwagon.

Get a grip!!

Ho ho. Once again, your attempt to be literary ends up being just stupid.

I won't nitpick through the wasteland of howlers you have provided me here, except to say that a canard is not a fig leaf or a diversion, which is the way you are using it, but an unfounded rumor/slander/etc etc.

Opera was never rarefied. It was always meant for the masses, and performed for the masses, and had deep local roots in Philly (Mario Lanza), and is still performed in the Italian Market festival and played over loudly at many Italian establishments which are pretty ordinary (like, say, Anthony's).

As for my rules: it was never an appeal to be civil. It pertained to debate, when one is engaged in a back and forth over sumthing' specific and asked that the debate not be derailed for the sake of diversions.

And no, you are not capable of affecting my morning. So, don't fret.

Ha ha ha. I will analyze other sports though. And from a none fan perspective this Sillies team reminds me of the 2010 Flyers. An underachieving team squeaks into the playoffs, and gets healthy and hot at the right time. Then they get the luck of the draw. In the Flyers case the Habs knocked out the Pens and Caps for them(Halak stoned those teams). In the Sillies case the draw allowed them to avoid the Mets(who owned them this year) and Dodgers. Back to the Flyers in 2010....they were able to maul the hapless Habs in the conference Finals and the Sillies are feeding off the not so good Padres. Sounds like similar scenarios to me. No?

It’s one thing not to jump on a bandwagon. It’s another thing to be a miserable miscreant when everyone around you is full of smiles, so you openly root against their happiness.

That’s not being a leader. That’s being a douchebag. No wonder nobody is following you.

Schadenfreude is for spinsters with a house full of cats and teens who wear only black and make “help me” cuts in their forearms.

Let people like things.

Phuck off dude!! I don't pee on anyone's parade you ingrate. I come on here and try to get a rise out of the one turd cause he seems like a smacked ass and I like irritating him. You don't know me at all and don't pretend that you do with your little childish name calling. I have many true Phillies fans in my life and by all means I'm glad that they are able to enjoy the ride. It's the fake fans that crack me up. If you are a true Phillies fan(you probably aren't) then by all means enjoy it. It's turds like you that make me root against the Philly teams. Now go crawl back under your rock with the other loser. Thanks!

You constantly use the word ingrate in posts like this. It means an ungrateful person, which makes no sense.

Also, what is wrong with being a Philly sports supporter, and getting excited when a team does well? It's not like you are switching loyalties. You are simply turning up the temperature in the same direction it was already aligned to.

That doesn't mean the fanhood is fake.

You do it all the time.

And yeah, I’m a ride or die Phils fan. You asked me awhile back what I thought about the franchise. I gave you an honest assessment.

Name calling is one of your things, so no, I don’t feel bad for calling you out on it.

An ingrate, by the way? Do tell.

Hold on, he’s gotta dust off Webster.

Look, I am not a soccer fan. I tried it, I think I gave it a fair shake - isn’t my thing. I’ll even joke that I find it to be for pinkos and eurotrash, but I kid.

That being said, when I hear the Union are playing well, I don’t go out of my way to trash their fans. Chances are, they’re Philly fans in general, and I like seeing them happy. We haven’t gotten much happiness over the years when it comes to sports, so let them have nice things for once.

Just because I don’t care for the sport doesn’t mean I have to piss on the parade.

And “Phuck off?” Really? I thought you were a grown man, yet you use a “ph” to crowbar that explative in there nice and snug. Ooh. Way to dodge that bullet. When you’re done looking up “ingrate,” perhaps find some other key phrases than “Phuck off” so you don’t have to stoop lower than you already are. ThAnKs!

Your loss. Sincerely. There is a reason 1 of two people in this world count themselves as fans. Whenever I hear someone disdain soccer, I privately think they are a dumbass (I kid too!).

Btw, since I am in a loquacious (procrastinatory) mood and you brought up soccer: There is something spectacular going on there now. That spectacular thing is this Viking cyborg called Erling Haaland (sp?).

The English Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. Meaning that some teams in Europe have a greater concentration of stars, but the quality is more uniformly high across the league in the PL.

The highest goals scored by a player ever in the PL is something like 34 in 38 games or so. Currently, Haaland is on course to score close to 60 if he keeps up this pace. (He has 17 in 11 games).

He will likely become the world's first player to get a contract worth over $1b. He is 22.

Look, I really did give it a shot. I wanted to like it. The drunken renderings of classics tunes and chants in a large crowd appeals to me for some reason. Fearless is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. Oh, and although I rarely wear a scarf, I’ve been complemented by girlfriends on my ability to pull one off.

But really, it just doesn’t grab me, and so I’ll leave the rest of you all to it. Enjoy, and may your Union kick some ass.

Methinks you doth protest too much. Moreover, your protestations about bel canto opera belie its origins and contemporaneous appeal. Finally, for most of the periods when operas were being written, most operas were approved by the aristocracy to satisfy its perception of the taste of the masses. Certainly, someone like you should recognize the significance of that distinction though it is possible that you embrace that perspective given your crétinisation of anyone who disagrees with you. That seems to be a recurring response from you to most things you disagree with, which is frankly a response to end a debate rather than having one (e.g., You are too dumb to understand what an educated person like me thinks).
