His age had nothing to do with it. You've seen that Micheal Bunting was officially nominated for the award? Maybe playing with Matthews had something to do with that outcome.

As has been pointed out, "winners must be 26 years old or younger on September 15 of their rookie season". Since Kuzmenko was born on February 4, 1996, he is currently 26 and 257 days old, which makes him ineligible.

Maybe this will make it more clear, from the NHL website: a player must not have attained his 26th birthday by Sept. 15 of the season in which he is eligible

Larger positive steps like getting into the win column need to happen. 😆

Missed the game, as no internet, cable or cell service, for a few hours yesterday.
Seeing a few highlights, and reading some stats, I see #65, is a lot like how Jason Dickinson looked, except twice as much, Pouty still struggles at the faceoff dot, but looked good on several highlights, Hughes looked brutal, and is playing 10 minutes per night, more than he should be.
