Bookmarked!
Afaik though, attendance figures are official butts on seats, not tix sold. If it had been the latter, we could have had official figures about that made available right at the start of game. But they wait until everyone has come in and then some more time to announce it. - PT21

Atkinson in ESPN article “there were things that went on last year I didn’t appreciate, it was like a country club feel”
Country club Claude should be boo’ed endlessly when he returns for being an absolute lazy pos during his decade reign of mediocrity. All about collecting a paycheck & getting his bs pp points. Disgraceful endless backing of this guy on here - Fopa21

The Florida teams were also a lot better. Did Detroit have Covid restrictions? - NC Flyers Fan
Don't try to have a hypothesis and then jam evidence to fit it. Look first and data and then do the best fit.
Do you really think Madison Sq Garden would ever be at 93.5%? Especially with the year they had?
Detroit always sells out. Yes, ofc they had restrictions. Why do you think those wackos tried to kidnap Whitmer couple of years back.
There are so many teams on that list with ridiculously low figures and who did very very well. What the hell does nationality: US/Canadian have to do with anything? |

You sound like one of the wags in 12th St. Air Command back in the 90s. Gay clubs always are the best nightclubs.
I miss the sleazy edge of Philly.
I remember when I first came to Philly in 1990. In those days you didn't even need ID to travel in domestic flights. I had no money, bought the return tix of an Asian dude called Michael Yang.
From Portland OR to CHI was fine. But my flight was late and the connecting flight to Hartford CT was about to depart and they were paging me. I ran through the terminal, this big white dude, and showed up and presented myself as Yang.
At Hartford, learned there was a Greyhound strike. No rides anywhere, no money. Hitched a ride on a rig to Port Authority, which was pretty sketchy in those days. Promptly got mugged for $20.
Then another hitch to Allentown (I used to change to buy donuts for the truck driver as gratitude/payment), and from there, 2 suitcases in hand, on Carl Bieber Tourways to Philly. (a relative paid for tix).
The bus was coming up near the terminal on 10th and Filbert, and I saw the signs for those peepshows that used to be there at 11th and Market (or somewhere there). It meant to say "Live Sexy", but the y had fallen off.
Two days traveling, no money, I remember this rush of emotion. Like, ok, this is where I wanna be.
I could write an encyclopedia of Philly sleaze off the top of my head. - PT21

You are so full of yourself. I haven’t made any hypothesis. I am just looking at everything.
Bold you are the one asking me to notice the Canadian teams. I asked YOU why.
It is difficult to have a conversation with you when you blow smoke consistently.
I was looking at like teams in placement first and moving out—Noticing similarities, differences and outliers. I honestly paid no attention to who did and didn’t have Covid restrictions or how severe last season. I am not dismissing that at all.
I am guessing New Jersey had similar restrictions to Philly? And perhaps Columbus had none?

So you think he was talking about a guy who played half the season, lost his brother & is still on the team & a guy who was basically the 7th defenseman just playing to break a record. Not the captain & guy who has led this organization through mediocrity for a decade long before hayes & yandle got here.
Genius! 🤡 |

The reason it is hard to "have a conversation" is because it takes you so very long to follow. What you call "blow smoke" is the effort of a guy persistently trying to point out a picture to you, one that really should smack you in the face instead of wafting over your head.
That picture is:
The correlation of low attendance to Covid restrictions is far stronger than the correlation of low attendance to poor hockey performance. One look at that table should tell you this.
And what is the biggest point in favor of above (italicized)? Canadian teams, where hockey attendance tends to be very high, and which had uniformly high Covid restrictions, uniformly did abysmally in terms of attendance, irrespective of how they did in terms of hockey results.

I am happy to believe you, but the source I provided pretty clearly says otherwise (total attendance). In fact, that paragraph explicitly says that MLB is the only one of the leagues that goes by tix sold. And the NFL, NBA and NHL do not.
Give me a creditable link that contradicts this and I will buy it. |

What if one is looking instead for the actual amount that can be attributed to performance and has never disputed the Covid effect at all? Could that possibly have gone over your head?

Your link is describing not counting comp tix in the total. when youre at the game and they announce the attendence of X and the Flyers thank you, its not the turnstyle count, its the tickets sold |

I see. That does make sense. I am more inclined to believe you now.
But, why do they wait so long into the game to make such announcements?

The tables go back a few years to get a benchmark attendance for a specific team. I have the team standings results for each year also. I do not know the specific levels of Covid restrictions for each city. You don’t happen to have that?

You would need to rank/quantify the level of Covid restrictions for each venue. This itself would be somewhat onerous.
Then, you would need to subtract that effect out (as a function of quantification) from attendance. Like saying: Philly's Covid restrictions accounted for a 10% drop while Montreal's accounted for a 20% drop.
Of course such data is not available.
EDIT: I can offer some heuristics though. Places like Montreal, Detroit, etc have had very high figures in previous years when they have been very bad. But they plummeted last year. That (informally) suggests a strong causality. |

Seriously, I was just looking. No hypothesis, no absolutes. Good grief! Imagine the arrogance it takes to assume why someone looked, what they were trying to determine and how they had it all wrong and can’t possibly understand.
I made a throw away comment about how attendance nosedived and that was somehow too much.
