I’m glad they’ve won, but I just don’t think it’s sustainable. My fear is that they improve enough to finish with 75-85 points, miss the playoffs but end up drafting in the 8-13 range. That would really be a worst case scenario when you look at the 2023 draft class.

Don’t fear. When risto comes back it’ll all fall apart

What’s gonna happen is I bet they beat all the “bad” teams, lose more than win against the “solid” teams all while missing out on a top pick and playoffs. So in other words same spot as usual

BINGO!

All of us have seen many a really bad team in our lives. They have certain characteristics, and the biggest one is a lack of structure and competitiveness. They look dispirited.

So high is the level of parity in this league, that if you play hard and have structure, even with marginal talent you will end up outside the bottom 6.

Within 30 odd mins of the 1st game, I knew this was such a team.

Or they plan on giving the C to Couturier or perhaps Atkinson when one or both return.
- BiggE

Based on the players who are actually playing, Laughton is a good choice for his letter. Provorov is another good choice for a letter. Couturier and Atkinson seem more like default players for letters. I think it should be three A’s all season long.

This is something to keep and eye on. But I like that he has locked it down in both games as the game went on.
- MBFlyerfan

Hart was the key reason the Flyers won this game, he made some huge stops in the 2nd that kept them in this game. That first goal against was deflected, so I don't blame Hart on that one.

Torts said he didn't blame Hart for either goal last night. One changed directions and the other he got bumped on. The bump was a non-factor to me. I think this is Torts building up Hart's confidence.

I’d have no problem with Couturier as captain. He’s been here for over a decade and he’s played the hardest minutes, and played them well, of any forward for much of that time.

So, you are glad they won, even though that very win makes it more likely for what you fear to come true?

Some have short memories. The Flyers got off to a strong start last season. They were scoring goals and the Atkinson line was hot. Then it all fell apart. You don't know anything about a team after two games.

My problem with Couturier is whether or not he can stay healthy, can he be vocal and remain as consistent as years passed when Giroux was here.

Laughton is definitely building a case. I’d like to see Provorov become a long term captain

Any thoughts on how Cates has looked at center?

I prefer him at wing and Laughton at center. I like Cates skating for forchecking ability, which I think is going to waste at center. Plus I trust Laughton more defensively.

We are passed that point for Laughton to be a center imo.

To double up on the worst case scenario, it would probably be enough to save Fletcher's job.

I strongly believe Fletcher stays regardless past this season, no matter how it goes.

If I remember correctly you were trying to lose weight. Try chicken breast in a cast iron skillet, seasoned then cooled. Diced and add dill , onion, dried cranberries, walnuts, mayo, dark mustard. Mix then put in fridge. Get a box of Triscuits and mound up accordingly. 😬

Ha ha.

Good stuff Angus.

My diabetes is in remission, but I have gained some weight back, am at 250 lbs now, so caution is in order.

I was hankering for some KoFC (Korean). But I guess I should abstain.

Grumble, grumble.

Intriguing recipe though. How do you cook the breast in the skillet? That sounds like a chicken salad, so I guess it's not fried. Steamed with lid on? Why in a skillet then? Mayo is not exactly lo cal either.

For a guy who doesn't go to supermarkets and lives off the land, you have some fancy recipes (and fancy smoothies) in your repertoire.

Speaking of lo cal, you know what makes for a great parmiagiano reggiano sub for pesto? Nutrititional yeast. And a good mayo sub? Cannellini beans with some raw cashews (soaked for 1 hour in lukewarm water) blended in something powerful (vitamix/nurtibullet etc).

Speaking of "dark mustard" do you mean grey poupon or the like? I favor old skool Brooklyn style mustard (a brand called Ba Tampte), though ofc it is made in California nowdays.

Recently, a friend got me a tube of Estonian mustard, the name of which spelled backwards is..

Ok so cast iron is the best for cooking. Has to be seasoned. Chicken marinated in fat free low cal Italian dressing. Let cool, dice up to small pieces. Get a large bowl and add mayo, (yes worst ingredient) brown mustard, dried dill, dried cranberries, raw walnuts, salt and pepper to taste. I’ll cook four large breasts so I can have enough for the week maybe. Triskuts are the the carb craving but I keep it to a minimum. When you take the time and effort to cook for yourself and eat small portions a couple times a day it gets rewarding. Especially when the weight starts melting off. I’ve had a few Rums so I know I’m missing something, but I hope the the type of , or a way of eating helps. Small portions is key

Sounds good , and good luck. Curious why Bill hasn’t done a blog on the last game.
