Maybe they told him, we’re tanking this season, we will have Bedard, don’t worry we’re bulking up

IP and TS are the only 2 of tonights 6 d men that should be here going forward. Zamula has upside
- THE BLACK HAND

Why not Tony D? He is young and productive.

Ivan is a free agent in 3 years. He will be moved at some point I firmly believe.

I like the Sanheim deal.
- black_francis

I do too. The term is kinda long but the AAV is not bad. Especially if the cap goes up like they say.

On its own it’s fine. The problem is he’s already handed out too many bloated contracts to too many mediocre players and we know this roster simply does not work.

The only real issue I have is that when he gets hurt just before the contract kicks in it will kinda suck.

He has a 2year deal. Hes a 3rd pairing PP guy, completely mis-slotted here. Hes not good in the D zone....hopefully hes traded next year

I think Sanheim made out well for a guy who sees next to no PP time. He’s still in the prime of his career, so good for him. I don’t think either possibility of trading him or keeping him is a bad decision. He’s our second best defense in my opinion and I’m glad he’s staying.

His numbers will drop no doubt. How much is the question. Not good and not as bad as Made out to be by some in the D zone.

He can help the right team, see Carolina. Again the deal for him on its own is fine. As a whole dumb.

Though you can easily see Chuck giving him an extension next summer.

They will or should recoup some of those picks in theory.

This is a good deal. Sanheim is a high quality 2nd pairing Dman that will play 20+ mins a game. Every team can use a player like TS
- THE BLACK HAND

I agree on the player, but Sanheim is not a player that you commit 8 years to. The AAV is a tad high also. That's a Fletcher hall mark. He overpays somewhat on every contract.

Same here, may be the rumor that Provy wants out is legit. Can't blame him.
- Trox88

I would think aside from being overpaid just about every player on this team would rather be somewhere else.

These guys are going to get poop on for 80 games through little fault of their own. What GM in their right mind puts a team together like this?

WTF is wrong with this Franchise!!! 8 years??? 8 friggin years!!! $50 million on Softie Sandie 😔

Hard to support this team. Growing up in Toronto being a Flyers fan wasn't easy. I've been in fights just for wearing this sweater, literally bled to be a fan of this team. I used to watch 70+ Flyers games per season. Last year, under 30. This year, I might watch a few games. I'm a fan of Hockey, so I'll spend my time watching teams that take this sport seriously.

The fact that Fletcher was allowed to make this deal shows you how lost this franchise is.

If he was worth $5 million to Carolina they would have signed him instead of trading him away and getting Burns instead.

Despite his individual numbers he did not contribute positively to the overall team scheme or the way it plays. Burns a much, much better fit.

Burns is a superior player as of now. As long as he doesn't fall off of a cliff.

Wrong. Burns is a better dman. He will help them more and they are in win now mode. So it was an easy call to make those moves x

Didn’t contribute positively yet the coach played him an awful lot.

Wow, Sanheim signed for 8 years, its clear he is part of the core going forward. You cant' have 5 defenseman over $5M per can you? This could mean Ellis is done for his career and the Flyers know it. If not however, I have to think its between DeAngelo and Provorov as the player moving out, and I think DeAngelo has the leg up given up the skillset he has on the PP and the attitude he plays with.

5 year would have been ideal, but yes, Fletcher negotiates against himself every time....for a player like Sanheim, ie low wear and tear, I dont mind the 8 years as far as physical deterioration

Burns in 37 years old and doesn't play defense, though he's a big minutes eater. In the end the Flyers don't need 27 year old players at this stage.

In a vacuum, it's a fair deal for how good he is and his impending UFA status. More value than any of the other big contracts Chuck has signed since he got here.

But it's just not smart for a team in this kind of situation to be handing out long-term deals to anybody that isn't an elite, fundamental building block.

Hopefully this means they have some kind of plan to get rid of Ellis and/or Risto. Otherwise they'd better hope the cap shoots up dramatically soon.

I thought it was interesting to see last night on The Standard how much Torts was driving the conversation, while Fletcher just stared a lot. I'm sure Fletcher spoke quite a bit but a lot was edited out.
