No idea what will happen the rest of the year and the Devils aren’t very good yet but I liked the effort the Flyers put in tonight. It was a fun game compared to what I watched last year.

They earned the win, hard working effort. Shows hard work pays off but also shows devils have a ways to go

This is a game where the numbers and watching the game, to me, tell a different story. Can’t watch that game and say the Devils deserved to win

In the context that I'm using them in, it's not about just this game. It's about looking at how it projects for future success. You aren't going to win a lot of hockey games where you're on the bad side of shot attempts at 62-28 and scoring chances at 33-14. If I'm Ruff, I look at this game thinking my goalie sucked and if we play that way, we'll win a lot of games. If I'm Tortorella, I'm thinking there were some good things and some young guys scored, which is a big boost to confidence, but we really didn't play well overall.

A few observations:

1 - They seem to be playing with a lot more energy than in the past 2 years.

2- Frosty seems to be gaining some confidence and momentum in his play.

3- Allison looks good for some of the game and then disappears.

4- They get in panic mode but stabilize fairly quickly.

5- Hart looks good but not great. Seems average to slightly above average. He did have a couple of great saves, though. There's some hope there considering he's had no game action until today.

7- Overall, the team looked more competitive than we've seen in a while.

8- Both teams suck so this is no measuring stick for the long term.

9 - This is just a start but don't have much more expectations than what we just saw. Playing better teams will tell us a lot more. And I am not hopeful.

It’s one game but tonight we looked far from a last place team.

Pretty sure Torts would hammer this home to the team whether or not they played poorly. He's not going to let them think for a second that they don't have a lot of work to do.

A coach is not going to just focus on a win, he's going to focus on process. The process overall was not good. That can also be looked at as just one game. Playing like that is not a recipe for consistent success.

#4. The past two years, it seemed like the puck always ended up in the net when that happened.

#5 Agree. EPSN guys were giving him a lot of love, but I thought he was shaky quite a bit. Provy saved a goal for him but he did make some big stops. Hopefully just rust.

Thanks for this! I was tracking online but don't have HULU/ESPN. Need to cut the cable cord when contract is up and switch. That said, I'm glad to hear about Frosty! He's almost at half the goals he had last season! Yes, only one game but hopefully it gives him much needed confidence.

The nonsense you come up with. I just watched it. I saw no such thing. You really just want to see what you want. There was absolutely nothing dismissive of Provorov. Here will be your first clue. If facts mean anything to you. See what Provorov's ice time is tonight.

- MJL

Without doing much forward or back reading on this I just have to point out one thing in regards to Provorov.
I think they mishandled his upbringing and now don’t know what to expect of him.
I suspect Ivan doesn’t know his role as well.
The talent is there to be a good offensive dman and very good in defending.
IP isn’t dynamic enough offensively to put up gaudy numbers. Defensively I don’t see him as a pure shut down dman.
He is kind of a hybrid who the flyers have no idea how to handle.

Torts presser was interesting. Basically, balancing trying to win while developing the young guys by putting them in different game situations. Frost will have every opportunity to succeed at center as an example.

I thought Hart looked great for a goalie who didn’t have a pre season.

Just got in a little while ago and just watched the highlights. Have no idea how the game actually went, but back reading on the comments today has been priceless! I guess Allison really is the next Hartnell down. I thought he was going to drill himself into the boards on the celebration. Glad to see Provorov and Konecny play well. They are the two veteran players that I think may take a major step forward under Torts. It's time for TK to grow up and take a leadership role on this team. Good to see Frost score a goal scorer's goal! All this being said....FIRE CHUCK! Thanks!
