didn't he say he wants to play his A team for the last 2 games?
so he thinks Primeau could really steal Montembeault's job and backup in Mtl? that would be best for Primeau' development? câlisse, la saison va être longue....

not sure what the train of thought was behind this decision, ideally you'd want Primeau to share the net with Allen in a season that doesn't really matter, but playing with the Rocket might be better for his development in the long run.

of course it would be better for him. everybody in Mtl knows that. except MSL and Hughes apparently.

meh, I'm not a goalie coach, I can't evaluate what exactly is best for him at the moment, every player is different. tonight he let in some soft goals but fought back and made some nice save afterwards, so it isn't a complete disaster either. perhaps they feel he can work on some aspects of his game at the NHL level.

many goalie experts will say a kid needs 250 games in the AHL.
there's always exceptions, but that's a good rule of thumb.
Primeau played 75 AHL games the last 3 seasons. total.

He should at least have a starter's work load once in the ahl first.

That's the minimum

oh I'm not arguing that the AHL is a bad idea, I also think it would be good for him, but at the same time I'm confident that the habs' management and coaching staff know better than I do (at least I (frank)ing hope so...), so if they decide to give him the net with Allen this year it might turn out to be the best option after all.

I want to see him play a lot, learn and win in Laval. a lot.
not sit on the bench in Mtl while Allen starts 3 games a week, and then Primeau comes in after 2 weeks, gives up 8 goals and go back on the bench for 2 weeks.
that is completely stupid, whatever Habs management think.

oh they'd basically be splitting 50/50 between Allen and Primeau, otherwise no it wouldn't be worth it. given Allen's recent injury history that doesn't sound so turrible either.

Also, how does he react when there is "a book" on him. Can he adapt once he is facing a team for a 3rd, 4th, 5th time. Can he handle 60 games....

Only one way to know

a lot of teams though are now opting to give more games to their backup goalie, I don't think playing 60+ games per season is the norm.

I guess, anyway I doubt they see Montembeault in their future plans, whereas in Primeau's case there's still room for more significant improvement, potentially at least.
