no, actually "Can't clear space" means you "Can't clear space".

I would rather not b/c I like having a good goalie tandem and don't want to lose a couple of young kids that may still be studs.. is vastly different. He still offered Johnny G $9 mill AAV. He just wasn't willing to go higher than that number.

I'm not saying that they should have traded anyone, I was pretty outspoken that I thought trading Varly would prove to be a mistake.

And sure, technically I can "afford" to make the payments on a Ferrari, but that sure doesn't mean I can afford one

I mean, I could’ve banged Pamela Anderson in her hey day but I decided it wasn’t worth it.

Which is pretty much the definition of "can't clear cap space"

If you have to lose valuable assets for a diminished return and doing so might make you worse....you kinda...."can't clear cap space"

I would be very shocked if Bellows makes the team out of camp. Raty and Nicky were much better all camp.

Bellows is done as an Islander.

Unfortunate, but I’ll not lose sleep over it.

Feels like Soshnikov is going to steal Bellows job. He's had a better camp and makes less money.

Yup.

And thank God for that. He’s the exact kind of player this team has been desperately looking for since Komarov left.

Soshnikov looked good last night. Skated well with the puck and created offense.
Liked what I saw from him and Raty.

I get why the isles did it. Hopefully I am wrong about Barzal and he becomes the player the fans expect him to be. I just do not believe he is a #1 center. I said it when Tavares left.
- Nfdbulldawg

Regardless if you think he’s a #1 center or not the NY Islanders needed to keep him. Didn’t you say you were concerned he was going to leave for nothing if Lou ( who’s magical ) didn’t get a wing to play with him? I believe you did. So that said you can’t have it both ways. Tying Barzal up long term and taking UFA away from him it’s going to be cheaper in the long run.
If Lou gave him the contract you wanted 8.25 x 5 years it saves $3,750,000 over those 5 years true. Now Barzal is 30 and a UFA. How much for how long do you think you’re going to give him to stay? Probs a 8 year deal at 9? Even if it’s a 5 year deal then it’s still costs more all in.

Say what you want about Lou but he doesn't overpay. The reason we don't have Johnny G and/or Kadri is b/c he doesn't overpay. If he is willing to pay Barzal 9.1 mill.... then my guess is it will be looked at as a great contract in a year or 2.

I agree. He’s just a fry short of a happy meal as far as being an NHL player imho.

Yes, I have too agree with you on this.

I probably did. However, my point was if you are going to make him the #1, get him the resources to be successful.

The logic on the monies makes sense. I just do not think he is going to be the guy you want him to be. I hope I am wrong because that means the boys are winning.
