I have this odd feeling this might just pan out… if this team can show some potential talent within the next 3-4 years (not necessarily wins, but true high pick talent) I can see them developing a fanbase stemming from students, who get good careers and can afford the tickets easier.

We shall see. This state is obviously important to stay in for Bettman.

Nick has potential to just like his brother so back off and give him the chance to prove himself. All he has done is score everywhere and if he can stay healthy I am certain a line of Tavares/Nylander/Robertson will be a force.

Three year dip into hell? It’s been a 26 year joke. They couldn’t pay their rent at their last home and there’s no guarantee that Tempe will be approved. The Athletic did a big investigation that showed the workplace to be a toxic work environment (led by the owner) and that the financial problems were much worse than reported. Arizona State insisted on a “good behaviour” clause for the owner in their agreement.

We’ve been hearing about “this will turn things around’ forever and all they’ve succeeded in doing is ripping off local municipal officials who fall for their smoke and mirrors presentations.

You're right in principal, yes. It's a clusterf$ of decisions and management. They've been run by consecutive imbeciles, and I think the new guy is no better. That said, I think one of the keys to a team's success is ease of accessibility, including transit and ease of additional options in the area.

I'd defer this to someone like Wedgie because I think he's been to at least half of the arenas in the league, and I have been to 2 (Toronto and Montreal) - but the basic human element here is that if you want a good consistent crowd, you need to give them easy transportation, entertainment options and so on. If I'm going to travel 2.5 hours from my place to a Leafs game, for instance, I want to make a day of it. Go for supper before, have a couple of drinks, hit the game, and then go somewhere for a couple of drinks after with a flexible transit system that allows me to be out later.

Some arenas that are stuck in the middle of nowhere (and they were in Glendale since 2003) and it affects everything. Die hard fans want to go, but it's really mostly preferrable if you live in the area and are just going to watch the game, but not drinking or planning anything around the game itself. Like . . .that's how I'd think of old lady Bingo night. You go to Bingo, you go home. When I go to a sports game - Jays, Leafs, Rock, whatever . . . it's an event; we make a day of it.

Yeah, I doubt that people are going to TTC it to Tempe from downtown Phoenix or Scottsdale or wherever. I don’t think it’s really a public transportation kind of area.

The demographics are probably a lot better than Glendale which was relatively poor and predominantly Latino. More importantly, they had worn out their welcome in Glendale and are looking for new marks. There are still significant obstacles before they get approval to move ahead.

We kinda got roped into a trip to Scottsdale in November - friends have a vacation club thingy, so accommodation is free. It's in the top right hand corner of Scottsdale.

I didn't really look into it before agreeing (to be honest, Mrs. Wedgie agreed), but it looks like we are waaaaaaay the hell out into suburbia.
