I think I read somewhere that the team only had a losing pre-season record once under Green which really puts everything into perspective right now

I think the forward group is solid, I’m not sold on the defense at all. Everyone is still being asked to do too much. A lot of square peg in round hole type of situations.

Apparently Carson Soucy was available via trade last year. He can play both sides, is steady defensively and decent enough at moving the puck. Ideally Garland or Hog are dealt for a decent dman.

No thanks to paying Horvat $7m+ for 7-8 years when he turns 28 years old. But if you refuse to pay you then you have to have the big balls to trade him during the season which I don’t think this management team will do if this team is in the playoff picture. And if you trade him you need a Center back because there’s no one behind Miller/Pettersson and those guys aren’t even full time career centers themselves to begin with.

I suspect they cave into Bo’s demands eventually.

So far sayros is the only person I've seen show any concern for preseason records. Anyone else showing concerns is talking about getting ready, chemistry, shaking off rust and getting familiar with new players and not repeating Green's mistakes. For some reason people who object keep circling back to wins/losses/record for some reason.

Most of the regulars have played two games so far, and have been practicing with each other when not travelling or playing in the games they were not in.

If they don't play the regulars for the next two games then your argument has merit that they are not preparing to get rust off and chemistry and so forth, but if they do play them, then it's just a lot of hot air being blown about as per usual in here.

Cheers Carol!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I’d like to see the Negative Nancy’s face off against the Rainbow Randy’s in a pre-season game. My money would be on Nancy, Randy is soft as butter.

There’s no crying in baseball, but apparently hockey players are absolute babies. Cody Glass taking after the Great One.

Hey Codes, if you’re out there, I’ve got a couple tickets for Peninsula Panthers. They are valid for any game during the season except Feb 20th. Thought maybe you would want to go to a game. Let me know.

If they don't play *enough regulars then my argument has merit.

There should only be a small number of fringe players in the line up by now. A couple to replace injuries and a couple to narrow down 13th forward and 7th/8th dman.

Regardless of all the dismissals on prepping for the regular season in the preseason, I still find it surprising that people don't see it as a missed opportunity to work on special teams against a division rival with all the calls in the game last night.

I, like yourself, agree, after game 2 of preseason, only those being considered for a job of some sort, within the Canucks lineup, should be still around by game 3 of pre-season.
I have lost most of my give a fuck already this season.
I see far too many resemblances to the previous regime, other than a bloated front office, and I can count on 2 or 3 fingers how many players I actually like on this team, 1 is a Russian and 2 are goalies.
Who in their right mind likes goalies.

Funny how it unfolded last season in the threads(as I continue to read through). Same people same narratives about preseason not mattering. Then with the terrible start they shifted to "no panic until 20 games are played". By the 21st of Oct most of those people shifted to "fire Green" and that was nowhere near 20 games in. There were still a couple/three defending Green though... Brooks Light(it's not Green, the players need to buy in) aNd nEeM who was getting trolled hard by Vintage for sticking with the "too early to worry" narrative.

I don't at all think Bruce will be as stubborn as Green but last nights roster decisions were concerning non the less.

It is baffling and disappointing to see soany resemblances from one regime to another.
In all fairness to the coaches, the GM has a fair amount of influence on player personnel decisions, but I doubt Allvin cares as long as Nils and Linus are in the lineup.

I don’t care about the record so much. Just meant it seems they have no desire to put a lineup together that has a chance to build chemistry and, as a byproduct, have a better chance of winning. Imho, getting embarrassed by kraken & oilers contributes to losing culture / mentality this team struggled so hard with early last year and ultimately overcame way too late. Also think it’s a a crappy thing to do to goalies trying to chase their dream by dressing scrub lineups against significantly stronger lineups.

If you want to put it down to the injuries to Boeser and Milky, that still doesn't explain why so many AHL forwards were kept. Clearly Karlsson, Klimovich who are prospects who should be pushing for a spot weren't ready and on D, well... the less said about it the better. Why wouldn't you want to play your regs from Sunday on even at half-speed even just to practice PP1/PP2/PK1/PK2 alignments? I mean you don't need to throw Demko in there every game, giving the goal to backup and AHL presumed starter is completely fine as long as Demko gets a period or two every other game and then plays the last 2 games fully.

...and here he is. The very last guy who was supporting Green last season telling people it was too early to be concerned in late Oct.

Were you on suicide watch when he got fired?

No I wanted him gone at that point. I just don’t get worked up about poop that’s not in my control and pretend to know better than professionals. But you do you bud!

At what point? The point where you were the last Greener standing?

There's this wonderful place on HB called the archives. Very interesting stuff in there.

I barely look at this stuff on any given day let alone past blogs. Bit much for my taste, but click cluck away my man. Looking forward to the regular season!
