I’m fine with it. The kid is a helluva talent. Is incredibly durable. Might be a few million more than I might have given him but he’s by far our best player. Looking forward to seeing him under a coach who will give him a little more offensive freedoms - BringNYIhome
His stats are pretty much exactly the same as Ryan Strome the past few years....just saying
Nice player but you caaaaaaan't pay that for a center putting up second line numbers - mkrisnosky
Barry system was not known for high scoring and it was a very defensive system. Cappy and Doug's system did not believe in defense. It will be interesting to see Barzal's numbers if the system is opened up a little. No question it's a lot of money like most of these contracts.

Well...is Barzal a better skater , puck handler, and more exciting to watch?.....sure, but results are results. Bottom line is that Strome had almost exactly the same points/stats while he played for NYR as Barzal did on NYI during the same time span....soooooo...?
You obviously don’t have the pleasure of watching him on a nightly basis. Because of the system he plays in and the teammates he has to play with, might be the most underrated talent in todays game. Elite skater. Elite hands. You put this guy on a team with talent he gets 100 points a year - BringNYIhome
If you want to see elite skaters go to the Ice Follies If you cannot finish you are not worth that kind of scratch SORRY DIMWITS
Steal in 3 years time if he can score 20-24goals/80-90 points per season over the next 5-6years. With the cap going up i from the 2024 season onwards, it’ll help with other contract negotiations when the best players cap hit is 10% or less. - Turnitaround
At this rate in 3 years you will have to sell your children in order to buy tickets The world is out of touch with reality This is a recession headed to depression Wake up America before it is too late. Just remember it is easy to spend someone else's money Fans money to be exact

Barzal outproduces Strome at ES. Strome has also played on a more offensively inclined team.
“We?” You didn’t give him anything. The Islanders did. Your analysis immediately tells us all where your level of hockey knowledge is at though - BringNYIhome
What the hell are you talking about?
So to clarify, all of the below means I have a lack of hockey knowledge?
1) Saying “we” when referring to the Islanders and our fanbase as a whole (I’m an Islanders fan, you dolt).
2) Pointing out Barzal’s penchant for turning the puck over
3) Saying that 9.2 per year is just a taaaaad of an overpayment
4) Asking how he or anybody wouldn’t jump at signing that contract
I love the Pens fans talking smack about the Islanders.. lol. didn't they knock you out of the playoffs twice? Swept you once? How many changes have you made? LOL.

What's fun is watching you trash bag isles fans gripe over his contract. That's good cake after the 6+ years of victory laps you took over Don Sweeney being an absolute joke of GM. Suck it.

There's not a single PIT fan in this thread saying a single negative thing about the Islanders team. PIT is declining and should likely be rebuilding, but at least 4 SCF appearances and 3 SCs to show for it. NYI haven't made a SCF in nearly four decades.
You said the Islanders would be contenders last season too and were way off. The Metro isn't a weak division. Lou has made plenty of bad decisions that are manifesting now. - jfkst1
This sounds like a negative comment from a Pittsburgh fan.. just saying.

99% of Isles fans are very happy about this contract. Locked up an elite talent for 8 years at less than $10 mill.

Sounds like a negative comment for the GM. Which, given they missed the postseason by a wide margin, is more than appropriate. I also have been defending the Barzal contract which most other team fans disagree with. NYR I hate. I have no issue with the NYI.
Lou is paying for potential now instead of results!

I guess getting to 2 ECF finals is not results? He's 25 and has 311 points in 362 games on a team that plays defense first hockey. Anyone who thinks he is an Average player doesn't watch hockey.
