I’m fine with it. The kid is a helluva talent. Is incredibly durable. Might be a few million more than I might have given him but he’s by far our best player. Looking forward to seeing him under a coach who will give him a little more offensive freedoms

Barry system was not known for high scoring and it was a very defensive system. Cappy and Doug's system did not believe in defense. It will be interesting to see Barzal's numbers if the system is opened up a little. No question it's a lot of money like most of these contracts.

Who’s his agent? He’s coming off a $7m per contract to a $9m per contract, this agent did well for this kid.

You obviously don’t have the pleasure of watching him on a nightly basis. Because of the system he plays in and the teammates he has to play with, might be the most underrated talent in todays game. Elite skater. Elite hands. You put this guy on a team with talent he gets 100 points a year

Steal in 3 years time if he can score 20-24goals/80-90 points per season over the next 5-6years. With the cap going up i from the 2024 season onwards, it’ll help with other contract negotiations when the best players cap hit is 10% or less.

So to clarify, all of the below means I have a lack of hockey knowledge?

1) Saying “we” when referring to the Islanders and our fanbase as a whole (I’m an Islanders fan, you dolt).
2) Pointing out Barzal’s penchant for turning the puck over
3) Saying that 9.2 per year is just a taaaaad of an overpayment
4) Asking how he or anybody wouldn’t jump at signing that contract

There's not a single PIT fan in this thread saying a single negative thing about the Islanders team. PIT is declining and should likely be rebuilding, but at least 4 SCF appearances and 3 SCs to show for it. NYI haven't made a SCF in nearly four decades.

Sounds like a negative comment for the GM. Which, given they missed the postseason by a wide margin, is more than appropriate. I also have been defending the Barzal contract which most other team fans disagree with. NYR I hate. I have no issue with the NYI.
