When Lappy was interviewed on Flyers daily he mentioned that some coaches want complete alignment between the AHL and NHL teams, for example AV was such a coach. However he also stated Torts told him to do whatever he wants to win, that Lappy has to win down there and Torts has to win in the NHL. I thought at the time this was a bad idea and not something I would agree to if I were GM, and now we are seeing the fallout to such a system:
Lappy: So I think the management and myself are looking for him to play a simple game, make that play and most of the times, he'll make a nice pass."
Torts: I think with some of his ability, he could be a breakout for us. Just get the puck and go. I don't want him just slapping the puck away and getting rid of the puck.
How can you develop players like this? I don't blame Lappy or Torts, I blame Fletcher because to me he has got to set the tone for what he wants in the organization. - jd250 This is ridiculous!! It should be a no brainer to implement the same systems in the AHL as you are playing in the NHL. What the hell is a player supposed to do when/if they get called up to the NHL level and then have to learn an entirely different system. It creates utter confusion and is yet another black eye against this once distinguished organization! FIRE EM ALL!! |

Agreed…it’s Ovi today with the overall body of work and longevity. But that’s not to say Mac will catch and surpass him. Easier said then done. To me that’s why Bossy isn’t top 10. It’s very tough to stay healthy and preform at that level for a long time. Longevity matters. - landros 2
For the record, I love me some Nate Mackinnon. When he came into the league he didn’t look as good as what he was projected to be and earned that mid level contract that he severely outplayed. But he also took that contract without whining about it, worked hard and adapted in order to succeed. Learning how to, and being able to adapt your game in order to succeed is the best quality a player of any skill level can have and Mac has it along with a rare level of skill. I don’t think top 10 all time is in his reach but top 20 or 30 is. |

3 games played, 1 g, 1 a, 2 pts. Yes, he was horrible in the second Boston games, so was most of the team. Vets are given more leeway because it is preseason. However, if you expect him to suddenly become more than a point per game player, I would say your expectations are off. By all accounts, he looked good in practice and in shape for the skate test and such. Let’s get the regular season going before hearing complaints about lack of accountability. I really believe Torts will be true on that front. - NC Flyers Fan
From the two games I saw he didn’t stand out much at all. I don’t het where you the idea that anyone thinks Hayes is a ppg player.
I haven’t watched practices nor would be inclined to if I could.
Hayes makes dumb plays on a pretty regular basis even when he’s playing well.
Usually from trying to hold on the puck to long and putting himself in a bad spot where he doesn’t have an outlet and loses possession.
It’s not wrong to expect more when he’s paid a pretty good salary.
I don’t hate on the guy just saying if the young guys are going to be held accountable then the vets must as well.
Let’s not forget JVR. 5 on 5 he tends to disappear. The flyers can’t afford for anyone’s status quo if they are going to improve this year.
Admittedly I would not feel bad if they played decent hockey for their talent level but still lost and hit a top pick.

Can play it physical too if he has to. Ovi kind of lays in the weeds and scores his goals. Of course, he is stationed in his favorite spot on the PP and no one has figured out a way to stop that to this day. Ovi gets lots of creds for longevity, but he just started playing defense a few years ago. Mac is certainly the more complete player, but hard to argue if the guy (Ovi) passes Wayno for the all time goal scoring record. |

Provorov: We might not be the most skilled team but we'll be the most conditioned and the hardest to play against. We're working toward that. We all want to have a better season, as a team and individually
Take a look around us -- this thing is on fire -- what the (frank) do you expect me to do? - corduroy
Idk, to me the hardest team to play against is the team who scores the most and has the best PK/Goaltending. Flyers suck in regard to all of these. |

President of what? - bird_dog_pa Of the best 4th liners in Flyers history. It was kind of tongue in cheek. That's the name that came to mind when I saw the question.

Some of what Zadorov said must be hyperbole. If that’s all true, it’s pretty extreme. Lol. Very Putinesque methodology.

Yep, a team that is hard to play against attacks you in waves. Puts you back on your skates. The Flyers are going to be spending a lot of time defending. That's the kind of team that is fun to play against.

To me Bossy is the greatest goal scorer in NHL history. Look at his goals per game average, only Lemiuex came close to him. |

He's definitely one of the best but is a player that had to retire in his prime due to back issues. He didn't have to face a longer career and the decline factor possibly creeping in. Doing it for longer carries more weight for me.
